Story
Cooper is a fun loving 8-10 month-old puggle-pitt. Cooper LOVES big dogs and would do amazing with a big doggy brother or sister, loves car rides, running, playing fetch, bath time, and cuddles. He is so eager to please and would make a great addition to any family. Cooper was aged incorrectly (by no fault of his own) by the shelter he was rescued from and is now too large to stay where he is. Please reach out if you think you could be a good fit or could offer an immediate foster while searching for his forever home.

Story
Meet Estrellita, the chihuahua! Although she is a senior technically, Estrellita is still a spunky, active girl. She came to the Shelter by no fault of her own – her previous guardian’s landlord said that she was unable to have her any longer. Estrellita has lived with two small poodles and a couple of cats, who she got along fine with. She can be nervous with new people but warms up and is a social gal who enjoys sitting on laps and soaking up attention. She was house trained in the previous home. Now through February 15th, all adoption fees are reduced to $33 - come to the Shelter today to adopt your very own Valentine! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Mickey, the little miniature pinscher x chihuahua mix! Mickey came to the Shelter after his previous family was unable to continue caring for him and wanted to find him a great home. Mickey has lived with other dogs around his size (and larger) and got along. He also would meet dogs out on walks and enjoyed saying hello. He has some experience with a cat that lived outdoors and coexisted. Kids 5 and older would come to visit at Mickey’s previous home and he did great with them. Mickey has been a bit nervous here but we anticipate that after a transition to his adoptive home, he will relax and settle in. Mickey primarily lived outdoors in his previous home so he is still perfecting house training. Client services staff can give adopters some tips on ways to start off potty training in his new home at adoption! Now through February 15th, all adoption fees are reduced to $33 - come to the Shelter today to adopt your very own Valentine! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption.
