Story
Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement—Kennel License #2617Could he do well with kids? Yes, with children around 14 years old.Could he do well with other dogs? Chonk can be selective with other dogs. Multiple meets might be necessary.Has this dog lived with cats? Yes. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not “cat test” dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]---Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Chonk is an older, reserved dog who is slow to trust. During his reassessment, he showed discomfort and was hesitant to come out of his kennel, requiring me to carry him outside. His walking improved, but he wanted to return to the kennel and showed reluctance to explore.Although he tolerated handling, he displayed signs of discomfort, like tense body posture and lip licking. He became more engaged with food but stopped eating when I touched him. He showed no signs of resource guarding, and I had difficulty assessing his knowledge of cues since he mostly remained seated and uninterested in play. When introduced to a stranger, Chonk displayed offensive/defensive cues, barking and growling while remaining seated. However, his behavior improved when meeting another shelter dog, as he gained confidence and briefly interacted with her before losing interest.---For more resources to help with any step of your adoption journey go to: https://go.petadoptiongateway.com/LycomingDT

Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement—Kennel License #2617**Due to Couscous needing neutered, his adoption will not be finalized until on or after: TBDCould he do well with kids? Yes, on a kid-by-kid basis.Could he do well with other dogs? Yes, on a dog-by-dog basis.Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not “cat test” dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]---Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Couscous is an energetic young dog who loved exploring the shelter grounds. He walked well on a leash but was hesitant to return indoors. Once inside, he enjoyed investigating the room and responded well to husbandry handling, coming when called. He had little interest in the food offered to him. He remained stable around everyday objects and sudden sounds. He enjoyed playtime but seemed confused when engaged directly. He became more enthusiastic when toys were introduced, though he didn’t know how to play with them.Couscous initially jumped on our stranger and had a tense but appropriate body posture during his dog introduction. But he improved in both circumstances and both interactions ended positively.---For more resources to help with any step of your adoption journey go to: https://go.petadoptiongateway.com/LycomingDT

Yes, on a dog-by-dog basis.Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not “cat test” dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]---What volunteers have to say about this animal:Meet Blue - A Gentle Heart with Her Best FriendBlue is a 9-year-old beagle mix with a shy but tender spirit, and one thing is clear: she and her best friend, Foghorn, are inseparable. These two have been side by side through everything, and they need to find their forever home together. At first, Blue may seem timid, but give her a moment and her sweet, affectionate side shines through. Outdoors, she`s all about following her nose and exploring, but indoors she blossoms-excited to greet people and happy to soak up affection. She loves being close to those she trusts, and she finds her greatest comfort in Foghorn`s company. When they`re together, she`s braver, more relaxed, and visibly happier. Some of her favorite things include:- Long, sniff-filled walks- Quiet companionship and gentle affection- Time with Foghorn-her rock and closest friend- Meeting new people once she feels safe- Blue Would Do Best In a Home That Offers:- Gentle children, considered on a case-by-case basis- Patience and kindness to help her come out of her shell- A calm space for her and Foghorn to thrive together- A family who appreciates the loyalty and love of a bonded pairBlue has shown no signs of food guarding, is comfortable with handling, and does well around everyday sights and sounds. She`s still learning about toys, but her real joy comes from companionship-especially with Foghorn nearby.Blue is ready to bring warmth and loyalty into a loving home... just as long as she can bring Foghorn with her.---Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Blue is a timid girl who enjoyed socializing but tends to pulled on leash, more focused on exploring outside than engaging.
