Story
You are going to fall in love with this Benji just as much as the TV star doggie! Benji has the sweet soul of an old friend—he’s calm, affectionate, and perfectly content to spend his days sitting by your side. He’s well-mannered (he seems housetrained), smart, and loves the simple things: a soft bed, a kind voice, and the occasional treat (or two). He is very food motivated! He does a little happy bounce when his foster Mom comes home. After a lifetime of loyalty, he was discarded at a shelter when his "family" moved. He didn't understand, but now he is enjoying being spoiled at his foster home. He is 14 years old but don't let that fool you or stop you from adopting - he is alert and cheerful. He likes to explore some and enjoys going on leisurely walks. He hops into the car himself and rides great just curled up in the front seat. He mostly just wants to be wherever you are! He likes to sleep in his bed beside his foster Mom's bed at night. Benji would not do well crated or kept in a separate room - as long as he is near you, he is quiet and easy going! He barks only if he can't find you. He just needs a family as loyal as he is!Benji is good with other animals - both dogs and cats. In his foster home, he ignores the kitties and made friends with all the dogs immediately. (If they grumble at him though, he returns the favor.) So he would also thrive as an only dog. He has learned to use the doggie door too. Benji is 27 pounds (he is tall) and has super soft fur - it is like petting a big "marshmallow" :)Because he’s sensitive and can get a little “spicy” if pushed to do something he doesn’t want, Benji needs patient adopters who will respect his boundaries and give him gentle care.☺️ Vet visits aren’t his favorite, but he recently had a dental and is feeling great! He’s currently on a simple, once-a-day liver supplement that’s easily given in a treat. Benji is looking for a peaceful home where he can enjoy his golden years surrounded by love and gentleness. It will melt your heart when he comes and lays his head in your lap to ask for pets! He is ready to be someone’s best friend and enjoy one quiet, happy moment at a time for his retirement years. We aren't sure what breed Benji is .... we decided it would be so much fun to do one of those dog DNA tests so his foster Mom sponsored a kit and soon our followers will be able to have some fun guessing as a fundraiser! When we know the results - we will post them here. For the moment we are going with Wheaton Terrier / Jack Russel Terrier / Schnauzer / something mix but it is subject to change soon! All we know currently is that he is 100% adorable.Note: Benji would like to find a home within about 8 hours of his foster home in Waco, TX. He is too big to fly and we believe a van transport would be stressful for him. His foster Mom is willing to drive or meet an approved adopter! To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.
