Story
Meet Jack! Jack is almost 13 years old now, and after quite a journey, we know his perfect person is out there somewhere. For the first 10 years of his life, Jack had one loving owner. When she sadly passed away, Jack came back to rescue heartbroken, confused, and unfamiliar with much of the world outside the quiet life he had always known. For the last two years, his foster mom has patiently helped him learn how to simply be — with people, with other animals, and with the routines of everyday life. And while progress can be slow for dogs who spent much of their lives unsocialized, Jack has truly come such a long way.Jack still prefers a quieter world. He does not do well with men, children or dogs larger than him, but he continues to improve every day and is coexisting better and better with his larger dog foster sibling. He absolutely loves another one of his foster dog siblings and even gets along wonderfully with his foster cat siblings. At 13 years old, Jack still has playful moments, but he’s also mastered the art of naps, cuddles, and cozy sleep sessions. His foster mom has helped him discover the joy of being outside and getting excited about mealtime, too. When life feels overwhelming, Jack is very content retreating to his crate — his safe little space where he can decompress and relax. He is semi-house trained and wears a belly band at times due to occasional marking behavior, but he keeps his crate clean and overall is pretty healthy for a senior boy.Breed-wise? Your guess is as good as ours. Maybe Shih Tzu, terrier, schnauzer mix? Whatever he is, he is incredibly handsome, unbelievably soft, and has the most beautiful markings.Jack may never be the life of the party — but for someone patient, gentle, and understanding, he could absolutely be the love of a lifetime. Jack is up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, neutered, and currently receiving monthly prevention for flea/tick and heartworm. If you'd like to add this handsome fella to your family, please submit an adoption application via our website, www.effinghamanimalrescue.com.
