Story
Meet Kiko and Kody! These adorable 8-year-old Rat Terrier brothers came to us after being surrendered to local animal control. They are sweet little guys who love to sit on your lap or shoulders. Kiko is a bit over 10lbs and Kody is a bit under 10lbs. They've done well around the other dogs so far here as well. They also appear housetrained. They're wonderful boys and have quickly become staff and volunteer favorites! Kiko and Kody are a bonded pair and looking for a home together.

Story
Brandy is a 1-year-old rat terrier mix who is house-trained, great with other dogs, and friendly with people. She’s energetic and playful, but may not be ideal for homes with small children due to her tendency to nip during play. Brandy is very vocal, especially when she's excited about dinner or playtime -- she sounds like a little "demon" but in the best way! At night, she sleeps in our bed, though she’ll happily move to a dog bed if she’s had enough. In the mornings, she’ll greet you with kisses or a wagging tail to help wake you up, making sure your day is off to a great start. Brandy loves walks, though she can be a bit unruly for the first few minutes. Once she settles, she walks well but tends to be reactive to other dogs, so a harness is recommended to prevent injury to her neck. Brandy is healthy, though she does have bilateral luxating patella, a condition she was likely born with. The vet suggests keeping her under 16 lbs. to manage it. Her ideal home would be active, possibly with another dog her size who enjoys playing. Brandy is smart and would benefit from formal training. Story
🎸 Presenting: Sir Ukulele A large personality in a slightly-too-large body. Sir Ukulele (yes, Sir — he insists) is a 6-year-old Rat Terrier with the gorgeous blue coat of a runway model and the long delicate legs of a deer that just woke up. Some say corgi, some say terrier, some say “is that a woodland prince?” — but everyone agrees: he’s adorable. Currently weighing in at 23 lbs of love (and snacks), Sir Ukulele is supposed to be closer to 15 pounds… and he’s working on it. If you’ve ever tried to skip dessert, you’ll understand his journey. ⸻ 🎸 Personality & Lifestyle Notes • Very friendly — he’s never met a stranger, just future fans • Gives world-class hugs (full body, committed, leaning in) • Prefers not to be left alone and will make this VERY clear • Needs to learn that crates aren’t portals to sadness • Great with other dogs and would love a dog sibling • Cats & respectful kids are totally fine • Potty training = still in progress, but he’s trying! • Leash walks are great… unless the destination is the vet 😬 • Nail trims? Oh absolutely not. He has strong opinions. ⸻ 🎸 What He Needs Sir Ukulele would thrive with: • A strong, calm leader (who can lovingly enforce rules) • A dog buddy to help him feel secure • Someone home more than not • A sense of humor (optional, but recommended) He’s sensitive, loving, and deeply people-oriented. He wants to love hard — he just needs someone to show him that independence and structure are safe, not scary. ⸻ 🎸 The Vibes Sir Ukulele is the dog who: • Will follow you into the bathroom • Will press his head against your chest during a hug • Will act like trim-time is a Greek tragedy • And will look at you in a way that makes you forget every inconvenience instantly He is beautiful, devoted, and ready for his next chapter — with someone who sees not just who he is, but who he can become. If your heart just said “that’s my boy,” Sir Ukulele is waiting for you. 🤍🎸 Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $275. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. We are located in Bloomington, IL We do not ship, you would need to travel to pick up your babies if you live out of state. Your current pets must be up-to-date on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, and on heart worm prevention year round. You must be at least 21-years-old to adopt. Please have your veterinarian and two non-family reference phone numbers ready. The app makes you start all over if you leave the page to look up numbers. Story
Olivia is full of spunky charm and bright-eyed enthusiasm, is a delightful ball of energy and affection. At almost 1 year old, she's in the prime of her youthful exuberance, still retaining much of her puppy playfulness while beginning to settle into a more refined routine. Rat Terriers are smart cookies! Olivia picks up new tricks and will learn house rules quickly, thriving on positive reinforcement and mental stimulation. Behind all that energy is a heart of gold. She adores snuggles, especially after a good play session, and will form a strong, loyal bond with her family.
