Story
Puca got very lucky indeed, but now she needs just a little bit more by finding her new home! She came to us as an owner surrender, but we very quickly realized something was very wrong with her. Mysterious facial swelling had us scratching our heads, and even the vets didn't know what to make of it. She was on medical hold for quite some time with generalized antiobiotics, but she's free and clear to be adopted now! She's a very affectionate and playful little lady who would likely be good with kids, but we're not sure about cats! Other pups? Maybe! Give Puca the forever home she deserves! updated 11/19/25

Story
It's been a LONG, EXPENSIVE road to get Princess ready for adoption but she is sooo worth it! GET OUT THE TISSUES AND READ ON! We get intake requests that we cannot help every day but this girl hit us hard! Princess recently lost both of her elderly owners. At a time that must have been already so stressful to her, the family took her to a crowded, rural, overwhelmed shelter where she was terrifed and looked down the road expecting someone to come back for her. When staff noticed a mass on her back leg and blood in her urine, they knew the chances of her making it out alive were slim. They told us that animals at this shelter don't go to the vet for medical care; they go for euthanasia. So many shelters are overwhelmed right now and even healthy dogs are being euthanized for space. I don't know why Princess' story hit me so hard but I just started crying. It's just something about the older dogs who lose their families that breaks my heart. Thank goodness for our foster families! One of our best offered to save Princess without hesitation! Princess was treated for a terrible urinary tract infection and had surgery to remove the mass. Unfortunately, the surgery site did not heal well because of it's location. Princess had to go back to the vet many times to get it resutured and spent weeks in a cone! Worst of all, the mass was mast cell cancer and not all of it was able to be removed. Princess is a kind dog who is a little nervous at times and loves the security of her crate. She is great with all of the dogs in her foster home and still has so much love to give. Princess is around 7-8 years old and weighs bout 30 pounds. She takes a benedryl daily to help control the growth of mast cells. More tumors may develop and there is no way to know what her lifespan may be but it's possible that she will live for several more years. Let's find a family who will truly treasure this precious girl! A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Princess, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other "slow to adopt" dogs! Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and schedule individual adoptions in the Waynesboro, VA. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
