Story
Tanner is a happy-go-lucky 1.5 year-old boy. He is a sturdy 22 lbs. of muscle. Tanner came to New Rattitude after being purchased from a breeder with his father. The two dogs did not get along and the ensuing conflict was just too stressful for everyone in the home. We greatly appreciate the family reaching out to us to help Tanner find his own home. Tanner is fostering at a boarding and training facility in central Virginia.  While there his fosters have learned that Tanner is good with other dogs that are his size or larger. Smaller dogs and other pets, however, are not a good fit. Like a good rat terrier, Tanner has a high prey drive and quickly grabs, shakes, and dispatches small furry things -- so cats would likely be a target too. He will happily be kept busy chasing the fuzzy lure on a pole, as he loves to do in his foster home. Tanner is very trainable and wants to learn! He is practicing controlling his excitement when presented with new dogs or situations. Tanner quickly alters his behavior when given clear instructions and boundaries. It is important that his new family continue to guide him to his best behavior. Tanner is clean in his crate overnight and enjoys going into it to chew on a bone. Tanner will resource guard food and coveted toys. Maintaining good crate behavior is essential to keeping him safe and out of trouble. He eats in his crate without any issues. Tanner has learned to sit and wait for his food in his crate. He also knows to sit and wait for treats if other dogs are present. He has shown himself to be fully house-trained and will adapt well to continued training in his forever home. Tanner is ready for his new life and adventures with his own family. More photos and video of him playing are available in his album here: https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/tanner    Tanner is a happy-go-lucky 1.5 year-old boy. He is a sturdy 22 lbs. of muscle. Story
"Where you lead, I will follow. If you need, you need me to be with you, I will follow where you lead." Jazz may not know Carole King but, she lives those words!  Her sole purpose in life is to be your shadow - cuddle with you on the couch, curl up close by while you're working, go for neighborhood walks (with you), or accompany you on all your errands (do not go without me!).  She loves riding in the car. She loves leash walks. She enjoys checking out the backyard as long as you're in sight. This 13 lb. rattie-chi mix is completely house-trained, and will tell you if she needs to go out in between walks. At 9 years-old, she likes her daily routine but she adapts well to new situations. She is fine with her foster sibling but on occasion she will bark at unknown larger dogs. She is untested around cats. Jazz has some hearing loss and may bark to get your attention -- but she is attentive to hand signals if you want her to quiet down. She can hear sharp sounds, like a whistle, but she's completely un-phased by the vacuum cleaner. Because Jazz is so attached to her person, she must be adopted by someone who is home most of the time. She would do well as an only dog; she'd also be fine in a home with another small dog. If you've been looking for a close companion, Jazz is your girl!  "Ain't it good to know you've got a friend?" You can see more of Jazz in her photo album at  https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/jazz If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE READ THE DETAILED ADOPTION PROCESS information on our website at www. Story
Meet Lilly, a very sweet and charming little Rat-Terrier mix who just turned 11 years old. Weighing in at just 10 pounds, she is an adorable cuddle-bug who is very gentle, rarely barks, sleeps soundly at night, and simply desires to snuggle up in your lap and feel secure. Her favorite thing to do is curl up in a blanket and also belly rubs. She walks gently on a leash and gets along well with other dogs and cats. Lilly is ready for her forever home with that very special someone who is home most of the time to provide her with love and companionship.

Story
Puca got very lucky indeed, but now she needs just a little bit more by finding her new home! She came to us as an owner surrender, but we very quickly realized something was very wrong with her. Mysterious facial swelling had us scratching our heads, and even the vets didn't know what to make of it. She was on medical hold for quite some time with generalized antiobiotics, but she's free and clear to be adopted now! She's a very affectionate and playful little lady who would likely be good with kids, but we're not sure about cats! Other pups? Maybe! Give Puca the forever home she deserves! updated 11/19/25

Story
Hello! My name is Elton, and I am a very good boy. I'm fully house-trained, crate-trained, and always up for a nice walk. I'm a compact little guy at about 16 lbs., healthy as can be, and at 1–2 years-old, I'm young but well past the chaos of puppyhood. These days, I'm all about being affectionate, playful, and just the right amount of silly. One of my absolute favorite hobbies is taking a warm, lazy nap in the sunshine. I also adore having canine friends. I've loved romping around with the young foster dogs in my home and would be thrilled to have a dog sibling in my forever family. My foster parents say I crack them up every single day with my goofy antics—so if you adopt me, you're guaranteed free daily entertainment. Most importantly, I have a whole lot of love in my little body, and I'm ready to give it all to my person. So... what do you think? Could you be my forever family?    See more photos of me here: https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/elton    If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE READ THE DETAILED ADOPTION PROCESS information on our website at www. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rascal – “My Home to Yours” - A Distinguished Gentleman Ready for His Next Chapter   Rascal is a 12-year-old Rat Terrier with a calm soul and a big heart. At 24 lbs, he’s the perfect size for a cozy lap or a relaxing spot on the couch. Rascal is a mellow, affectionate companion who enjoys the quiet life—lounging on furniture, soaking in sunshine, and gently nudging you for ear rubs when he’s feeling especially affectionate.   Rascal has early-stage kidney disease, which is managed through a special diet and vet care with Corban Veterinary Services. While he’s not a fan of prescription kibble, he thrives on fresh, thoughtfully prepared meals that keep him feeling his best. His ideal adopter will be comfortable continuing this routine with simple ingredients like lean meats, broccoli, rice, or salmon.   He’s housetrained, well-behaved, and enjoys a predictable routine—especially when it includes three small meals, leisurely strolls, car rides, and quiet time spent nearby. Rascal also appreciates safe, enclosed outdoor spaces where he can explore off-leash, stretch his legs, and take in the world at his own pace.   Rascal would do best in a calm, pet-free home where he can be the center of attention. He does well with older children who respect his space, and he’s polite around strangers. His preference for peace and personal boundaries makes him a great fit for a household that can provide structure, affection, and understanding.   Why He’s Looking for a New Home: Rascal’s person is embarking on a life-changing journey to heal after loss and has accepted a job aboard a cruise ship that requires long hours and international travel. While the decision to rehome Rascal is deeply emotional, it’s made with his best interest at heart—to find a loving home that can give him the time, care, and connection he deserves in this stage of life.   Ideal Home for Rascal:   No other pets Calm household with respectful older children (if any) Fenced yard preferred but not required Someone home regularly or able to maintain a consistent daily routine Willing to provide a simple, home-prepared diet and vet-recommended care This pet is not currently housed at the shelter. They are part of our My Home to Yours program, which helps owners find new, loving homes for their pets without placing them in the shelter. Friends of Campbell County Animal Control is assisting with the adoption process to ensure safe and successful placement. Please note: FOAC has not met this animal in person and cannot verify the accuracy of temperament, behavior, or health statements provided by the owner.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 30, 2025, 7:14 pm
