Story
Hi… I’m Wallace 🤎🐾I’m a 1.5-year-old Black Mouth Cur / Shepherd mix, weighing about 40 pounds, with extra-soft black and brown fur and big, loving brown eyes. People say my eyes look right into your soul — I think it’s because I’ve been waiting a long time to truly belong to someone. 💕Before I came to the shelter, I lived in a hoarding situation with many other dogs. We mostly stayed outside and were fed, but I didn’t get to learn how to be part of a family. I didn’t really know how to play. I didn’t know how cozy a warm bed could feel. I didn’t know what it meant to have someone choose me. Because of that, I can still be a little shy with new people at first. Loud voices and fast movements make me nervous, but if you approach me with kind, soft-spoken words, calm reassurance, and maybe a few yummy treats… I warm up more and more every day. 🥹Once I know I’m safe, my silly and fun-loving personality starts to shine. I absolutely LOVE to run and play! Squeaky toys and crinkly toys are some of my favorite discoveries, and when I get excited, I do the cutest little tippy-tappy dance with my front paws because my happiness just spills right out of me. 🐾💃✨I’m a very sweet boy who loves to be close to my people. Sitting at your feet, curling up beside you, or soaking up affection is my happy place. I also look pretty handsome in sweaters, if I do say so myself. 🧥😉 I’ve learned how to use a doggie door when given access, and I’ve done very well with crate training too. I get along wonderfully with other dogs, and honestly, I would thrive in a home with a confident canine friend to help show me that the world is safe and full of love. Having another dog around really helps build my confidence and brings out my playful side. I walk very nicely on a leash, especially if I have a dog buddy walking beside me too. 🐕💛 I haven’t officially been tested with children yet, but because of my gentle nature, I would likely do well with calm and respectful kiddos. I’m especially wonderful with the elderly — I’m tender-hearted, gentle, and perfectly content just sitting quietly beside someone I love. I’m still learning the basics of being a family dog, but I’m highly intelligent, eager to please, and very food motivated, which makes training much easier. I do have a high energy level, so I’ll need regular exercise, playtime, and mental stimulation to help keep my mind busy and prevent me from forming any undesirable habits. I’d make an amazing adventure buddy for walks, hikes, play sessions, and cozy evenings afterward on the couch. 🌲🎾More than anything, I’m hoping for a patient, loving home that understands shy dogs and is willing to help me continue building confidence at my own pace. In return, you’ll get the sweetest velcro dog who will love you with his whole heart and look at you like you hung the moon. 🌙🤎I’ve spent my first year just surviving. Now I’m finally ready to belong. Could I be your Wallace? 🐾You can also call the shelter at 479-394-5682 to find out more about me.****************All animals at HSO are current on their vaccinations and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Story
🐾💕 Hello there! My name is Shauna! 💕🐾I'm a 2-year-old, 37-pound Black Mouth Cur/Shepherd mix, and underneath my shy exterior is a sweet, gentle girl with a whole lot of love waiting to be shared. 🥰 My beginning wasn't exactly easy. I was originally one of 20 dogs living in a hoarding situation. The sweet older woman who cared for us had the best intentions—she simply couldn't say no to an animal in need. Unfortunately, things became overwhelming, and after she passed away, her family trusted the Humane Society of the Ouachitas to help give us a better chance. Because I missed out on many of the normal experiences puppies should have, new people and unfamiliar situations can be very scary for me. I'm extremely shy and nervous at first, but I'm also incredibly intelligent and observant. I watch my surroundings carefully and learn from the animals around me. And that's where my very favorite thing comes in: other dogs! 🐶💕 I'm definitely a dog's dog. I absolutely thrive around other four-legged friends, and having a confident, friendly dog beside me is the fastest way to help me understand that everything is okay. When another dog trusts you, I start to believe that maybe I can trust you, too. Once I've decided you're my person, watch out—I'm a VELCRO DOG! I want to be right beside you, whether you're relaxing on the couch, moving around the house, or just enjoying a quiet day together. I don't particularly like being alone and would much rather have my people or a furry friend nearby. I'm a very well-mannered girl and don't jump up on people. I walk nicely on a leash when I'm in a peaceful, familiar environment, and I do well with calm kiddos who understand that I need a little time to feel comfortable. I'm also a pretty good traveler! 🚗 I ride well when I'm crated in a vehicle, although I still need a little boost to get loaded. With patience, regular rides, and maybe some yummy treat bribery, I think I could learn that car rides aren't so scary after all! I've been waiting for my forever family for an entire year, making me our shelter's longest resident. 💔🐾 The good news is that I'm currently enjoying life in a foster home, where I'm getting the chance to experience a quieter environment and continue building my confidence. I'm not the girl who will run up and greet you the moment you walk through the door. I'm the girl who will quietly watch, learn that you're safe, and then—once you've earned my heart—love you with everything I have. ❤️ I would thrive in a calm, patient, loving home with another friendly dog, or with a family who is open to bringing home two canine companions. I don't need perfection. I just need someone willing to give me the time and reassurance I've been waiting for. If you think you might be the person who can help this shy girl finally feel safe, loved, and home, please call the shelter to coordinate a visit. Since I'm currently in foster care, an appointment will need to be arranged ahead of time. 📞 Humane Society of the Ouachitas: 479-394-5682. I've waited a whole year for my chance. Maybe you're the one I've been waiting for. 🏡💕🐾****************All animals at HSO are current on their vaccinations and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
