Story
Oliver is a big, loveable boy who is looking for a patient and understanding home to call his own. At around 2 years old, Oliver has lots of personality and a huge heart. His favorite things in the world are getting attention, playing, and spending one-on-one time with his people. If you're looking for a loyal companion who wants to be by your side, Oliver might just be your perfect match. Oliver would thrive in a home that can give him time, patience, and some continued training to help him be the best boy he can be. With the right person, he has so much potential to grow and become an amazing lifelong companion. Because Oliver likes having all the love and attention to himself, he would do best as the only dog and possibly the only pet in the home. This will help him feel comfortable and allow his personality to truly shine. Oliver has so much love to give- he just needs someone willing to give him a chance

Story
For a big boy...I can move...you should see me run and pounce around the dog arena chasing a tennis ball. I am a challenged dog, I can become possessive of people and sometimes toys....and my food. I would be a project dog for who ever adopts me...I would also require a few meet and greets. I would do best in a home without children. I do like to receive attention...but if you stop giving me attention I pout.

Story
Update 4/2026  Someone inquired about Rocky the other day and I had to explain that his personality would not enable us to send him to a Petsmart for show and tell.  We have made the decision to add Rocky to the Joyful sanctuary pets as he would struggle in a normal home if the humans weren't as fast as us because when he wants something (toy, bunch of kale....) he will be taking that something.  He is also showing signs of physical aging typical of such large dogs and well....he farts SO much!!!!  We love Rocky and will love him until it is time to let him go peacefully.  Rocky was born June 23, 2015 and weighs about 100 lbs.  Rocky is with us because his humans moved to a condo in Florida that does not allow his breed.   Rocky is your typical Rottie and bonds intensely with his humans and would like for his new humans to be around more often than not.  When Rocky was dropped off we were greeted with big (docked) tail wags and kisses.  He needed vaccines and a bath upon arrival and he was wonderful with us for both, the nail trim was somewhat of a challenge and now that he is actively running around and swimming they are in good condition.  Rocky has been good with other dogs here and if he goes to a home with another dog Rocky will likely be the alpha and a dog medium to his size would be preferred - he's just a lug.  He is house trained and travels well in the car.  He is also good on leash, but is strong if he decides to go in a different direction than you.  He is the kind of guy that will hang with you when you are doing your outside chores.    He has been fine meeting children but we wish to place him in an adult/teen home since he would most likely be protective of his home/family to strangers.  When Rocky arrived he was out of shape and showed his age and after a few months here he looks amazing, is a wonderful weight, and if we didn't know better we might guess him to be about 7-8 years old!  A couple years ago he weighed almost 150 lbs. - life style makes such a difference!  Vet notes indicate there are two masses ventral thorax - 1 cm in size each that are cyst like and lipoma like.  They were not tested and we do not have the funds at this time to get them tested.  There is a scar on one eye lid and there are scars up and down (mostly the front) of all of his legs from chewing.  The owners noted boredom, we are leaning in the boredom/stress direction.  He was chewing on them some upon arrival, but we haven't noticed it lately now that we are getting him out for fun activities and socialization.  He does have some nuclear sclerosis (old age cloudiness) in his eyes that is not bothering him at this time.  Upon arrival he had an ugly skin tag like thing under one eye that magically fell off during his antics here.  There was no blood so it was not attached very well.  Whew!  There are notes that he didn't care for the vet and his young, adult, 'sister' was not able/willing to handle him and we saw normal protective instincts when he went to our vet and someone walked up and stuck their head in the truck when he was loose....probably not the best thing to do but everyone was fine.  So, he is a normal Rottie....as he should be.  The Rocky we have with us now, after a few months, is happy, loving, well adjusted, and is in great physical condition and no longer has the shattered heart he came to us with.  Although he does need a forever home and, hopefully, that will be the last adjustment for him.  Oh, he has amazing balance and loves to Kayak and he is a good swimmer and will do about anything for a squeaky toy!  As you can tell we have grown to love him and have enjoyed his stay, but he would like more human attention than he gets here with so many others.  We've found he has too much interest in cats to live with any. Thank you for reading all this, if he is for you we would love to hear from you! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $__N/A__. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link 'Special Instructions to Seller' if you want to note a particular pet Before you seek to adopt a pet from Joyful Rescues, please read our Pet Adoption page http://www.joyfulrescues.org/pet_adoption.html. Story
🐾 SKUNK is an adorable medium size Min Pin mix puppy who just loves everyone. He's at 33 lbs right now, but we feel his ideal weight is likely a little closer to 40. He is estimated 9-12 months as of the time of listing, and his foster would 100% adopt him if her older pup was more open to it. But Skunk is great with all animals and people he meets. He's housetrained, crate-trained and just a sweet pup! We've got him his vaccinations and he's getting neutered the week of 4/6, as well. We'll report back with more pics as soon as we get them from his foster. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply and be sure to choose their name from the dropdown to expedite your application!! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

Story
Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters! I am GhostBuster and I have a neat, sad and then happy story to tell you... So hang on for the ride!! But realize my NEXT BEST CHAPTER can include you!! In the sweltering heat I was blessed enough to CHOOSE the Post Office to hang out in. I was there for months, and no one could get me...and they tried but they deliver MAIL, not SAVE DOGS for a living..:) The Post Master knew about a local rescue, and they tried to help me too...then I was hit by a car and injured... AND I found a girlfriend and she was my lucky break, literally. The Police Department was finally able to save us and away we went to the rescue! My sweet girlfriend, Avian, was adopted before me, but I believe this is MY TIME!! Here is what my rescue friends describe me.."GhostBuster is always happy to see you, his eyes shine, tail wags, and his energy boosts whenever he sees his favorite people! He has the subtle markings of a Rottweiler or a Doberman and the temperament of a lab. He had an injured hip when saved but he has had surgery and has had his heartworms treated. During all this time he has started to know what a kind hand is like, some love, and real food! Now he can learn what a real family is :) Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area )
