Story
Squiggy is a lovable little 2-year old beagle who wants to be loved. He wants to be with you wherever you are. He warmed up to his foster parents pretty quickly, and is warming up to the other foster dog in the home. Once he gets to know you his tail wags non-stop. He has lived with other dogs and got along with them, but he is a little jealous of the other foster dog in his new home, especially if he is on the couch with his foster mom and the dog approaches, but he is getting better. They do sleep together now and he is starting to play with her. Squiggy was a hunting dog who probably was not a good hunter. He is not used to loud noises like traffic, garbage trucks, construction, etc. He does OK on the leash but is a little fearful of being outside because of the noises so he needs secure leashing. He isn't 100% housebroken yet, partly due to his fear of the noises outside, but he can go overnight or for hours without a bathroom break. But he will go out to do his business when he is ready. So far only one accident. Squiggy gained a lot of weight at the shelter, so he will need to lose close to 10 pounds. We have started working with him but whoever adopts him will need to continue to work on the weight loss. He is healthy, vaccinated, and HW negative. Surprisingly, not a fast eater and takes a while to start and finish eating, although he will whine and growl a little if the other foster dog approaches him while he is eating. He will just need time to get used to being a city pet. He will be a great pet for someone he can give all his love to. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org

Story
As discarded hunting dogs, life hasn’t been easy for Heidi and Chaplin, but things are finally looking up! Following a lifetime of neglect, they have received some much needed TLC and are ready for their forever home. We do believe they’re a bonded pair and are seeking a loving home where they can enjoy their golden years TOGETHER. These days their agenda is simple: relax, nap, and soak up the affection they’ve always deserved. Both pups are easy going, gentle souls who enjoy time outdoors in a fenced yard for sniffs, as well as indoor time for ample naps. These sweet pups are looking for a loving home that can offer a little extra understanding. They both experience some incontinence and take medication to help, but do have accidents. With patience, routine, and simple management tools like frequent potty breaks and washable diapers, they do well and continue to live happy, comfortable lives. They do not jump on furniture and are well behaved when left alone. Their foster home does not crate them. Chaplin can be a bit unsteady on stairs, so it’s best to monitor his access, especially if they aren’t carpeted which helps with his grip. Their DNA age tests show Chaplin is almost 10, and Heidi is about 8 months younger (as of 1/20/26) - a couple of years younger than first thought. Chaplin weighs 38 lbs., and Heidi 35 lbs. Both are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped, and up‑to‑date on vaccinations. Chaplin has a permanent head tilt and slight gait unsteadiness, likely due to years of untreated ear infections. The head tilt doesn’t slow him down and a veterinarian, while in Homes Fur Hounds’ care, advised that with prompt treatment of any future ear infections, the neurological issue should not progress. He also has some scarring (“cauliflower ear”). His ears are comfortable now, but they should be handled gently, especially during weekly cleanings. Lately, we’ve noticed he may not hear as well as he used to, but his nose is as sharp as ever—he still shows up in the kitchen right on time for meals. If Heidi and Chaplin sound like your perfect pair, please apply at: www.homesfurhounds.org.

Story
Meet Dansby! Dansby is one of the very beautiful 3 year old hunting beagles we took in recently with her sister Elsa. As you can see in the pictures, she is quickly falling in love with being an inside family pet. She even snuggles on the couch with her poodle foster sister. Dansby is very sweet and a bit shy at first. She is adjusting well to being a pet and has done really well with housebreaking. She is also discovering toys and likes to carry her toys around and take them to her bed. She is a little bit of a "talker" and does bark at neighbors going by so she will need a bit of training. She will come to you when called and her barking seems to be something she does when she wants to play rather than an aggressive bark. Dansby is not as food motivated as most beagles and will sometimes not even eat all her food. She is a slow eater and has no food aggression. She is friendly and playful with people and with the foster poodle in the home. She was a little nervous at the vet's office but did fine. The longer she is here the more we see her wonderful, fun personality. She is vaccinated, heartworm negative, micro-chipped and will be spayed next week and ready to leave. If you are interested in meeting Dansby our application can be found at www.homesfurhoounds.org
