Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This adorable little boy was picked up as a stray in Kentucky, so we know absolutely nothing about his past.  But we've learned a lot about him while he has been in our care!    He is very affectionate and loves to be with his human(s) at all times.    He's about 8 years old, and weighs 23#.   We think he prefers to be the only dog in the home.  Initially we thought he would probably enjoy having a canine friend to play with (one who will likely allow him to be alpha), but now we think he would prefer to be an 'only child'.   He's curious about cats, but hasn't bothered the cats in his foster home. Auggie does great on a leash, he's good in the car, house trained and will let you know when he has to go outside and potty.  He easily uses doggie stairs to get up into bed, and he's a great couch companion.  Like many Eskies, he is vocal and slightly demanding at times when he wants something.   He loves his food, and even loves frozen green beans as a treat!  He's currently on a prescription canned food to keep crystals from forming in his urine, which he loves.  It's readily available at Chewy and in pet stores.    (he has a written script for the food, which we will give to adopter).  He does best on soft and canned foods, due to the fact that he had severe periodontal disease when we got him.  He had multiple cracked, broken, and missing teeth, and the vet gave him a 4/4 score for his dental condition.  We usually see that when dogs have spent a lot of time chewing on kennel bars, or trying to eat rocks.   When Auggie had his dental done, most of his teeth were removed, and we're sure he's feeling so much better now because of that.   If you have any questions about Auggie, please contact Cheryl@eskierescuers.org.  Or complete our online Adoption Application, the link is part way down this page: https://www.eskierescuers.org/info/display?PageID=21057  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers. There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hey there!  I'm Portia, a happy and playful pup looking for my forever home here in sunny Florida! A Little About Me:      •Newly Confident:   I've come a long way from being a shy girl!  Now, I warm up to new people after a couple of meetings.  Once I trust you, I'll be your biggest fan and will happily soak up all the love and attention you can give.      •Playtime Enthusiast:  I love to play with my toys!  You'll often find me throwing them around and fetching them all by myself.  Dental chews are a favorite of mine, and I get super excited when it's time to open 'presents' -- that's when I get to dig into paper towel rolls stuffed with treats!      •  I also like playing with other dogs that are my size or smaller (I've never met a dog that's bigger or any other type of animal).      •  Cuddle Bug:  I adore being petted and cuddling.  I like to stay close to my humans, even if we're just enjoying some quiet time together.  I'm also a fan of being brushed and am okay with nail trims and baths.   My Skills:              •  I've learned a bunch of commands and love to show them off for treats!  I know how to come when called, sit nicely, go to a 'place' which can be a mat, bed, or towel on the floor.  I will put my head through the harness or slip leash or collar to make it easy for you to get it on.  I do a really good down.  I can't wait to impress you with my skills.        •  I enjoy having a cozy crate that I can retreat to for a nap.  If you want me to go in there, all you have to do is say the magic word, and I'll happily go in there.        •  Expert at going to potty on training pads.   A Few Things to Consider:        •  Outdoor Adventures:  While I'm still getting used to the great outdoors and can be a little anxious out there, I've started to sniff the grass and enjoy the fresh air.  With a patient and encouraging friend by my side, I know I'll learn to love it more.  For now, I'm fully potty trained on training pads, which is super convenient, especially during Florida's rainy days!      •  For now, you'll have plenty of space indoors for me to play.  I'm so excited to find a loving family that understands my journey and can help me grow even more.  If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate companion who's ready to play and snuggle, then I'm your girl! Let's make some wonderful memories together! Ready to meet me?  If you think you could be my perfect match, I can't wait to meet you!    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.
