Story
Meet Iago — your very own fox-in-disguise with a PhD in “Human Studies” 🦊🎓 At 40 or so lbs, Iago is a perfectly portable bundle of fluff, brains, and side-eye. With his fox-like looks and expressive face, he tends to stop people in their tracks—but don’t let the model exterior fool you. Behind that cute face is a highly sophisticated operating system running thoughts like: “Interesting… but have you considered my idea?” Iago is incredibly smart, well-trained, and always thinking. He knows his basics and learns quickly, but he’s not here to be a robot. He’s here to collaborate. In fact, he may occasionally “test” the humans in his life just to make sure they’re consistent, fair, and worthy of his considerable talents. (Don’t worry—he’s rooting for you.) He thrives on clear communication, consistency, and mutual respect. Bring calm, confident energy, and Iago will match it like a mirror with opinions. Because of this, we are recommending he be adopted to a home without small children at this time. When it comes to problem-solving, Iago likes to… explore the full menu. If you show him how to do something, he may first try it his way (or three other ways) before circling back to yours with a thoughtful “ah, yes, that is efficient.” Give him a little time to process and some gentle reminders, and you’ll see that brilliant brain click into place. He’s not stubborn—he’s conducting research. With his intelligence and athleticism, trainers have suggested Iago would be an excellent candidate for agility or other dog sports. He’s got that “put me in, coach” energy and would absolutely thrive with a job, a challenge, or an obstacle course to conquer like a tiny, fluffy overachiever. Like many bright dogs, Iago does take his food bowl seriously. He can be a bit protective of it, but he’s already been working hard on building positive associations with people during mealtime and has shown great progress. With continued thoughtful handling, he’s more than capable of continuing that growth. And once the workday is done? Iago clocks out hard. This clever little fox transforms into a full-time cuddle professional—snuggling in close, offering hugs, and rolling over for belly rubs with impressive dedication. It’s a delightful contrast: part intellectual, part athlete, part marshmallow. Iago is looking for someone who enjoys training, appreciates a dog with a sense of humor, and is excited to build a relationship based on trust, respect, and the occasional negotiation. If you’re ready for a dog who will challenge you, charm you, make you laugh, and then curl up next to you like he didn’t just outsmart you five minutes ago… Iago is ready to meet his match.

Story
**Sudder is not currently in the direct care of HTHH. His owner needs to rehome him due to his owner's own health issues and we are assisting them with that. If you are interested in Sudder, please fill out an application here: https://www.happytailshappyhomes.org/adoptionform ** Sudder is an 11-year-old Shiba Inu mix with a look you won’t forget—one ear up, one ear down, a wagging tail, and soulful eyes that lock right onto yours. He’s affectionate, playful, and happiest with life’s simple joys: cuddles on the sofa, gentle scratches, and slow walks where he can take his time sniffing flowers, bushes, and every cedar tree along the way. Sudder spent 9 years with his original family and the last 2 with a loving elderly couple who adopted him through Happy Tails Happy Homes. Like many Shibas, he bonds closely with one “favorite” person, but he warms up to others who offer patience, treats, and affection. He’s adapted well from farm life to a busy, multi-pet community and is now comfortable with everyday activity. He’s even made friends with many dogs and cats, though he may still bark when he wants to say hello but can’t. Sudder would do best in a home with a fenced yard, as leash walking can be frustrating for him. He can be reactive to some dogs on walks (barking/pulling), so an experienced dog owner is ideal. He recently had CCL surgery (similar to an ACL tear) and is recovering well, but needs limited activity through August. He may also need help getting in and out of a car. He weighs 31 lbs. Despite everything, Sudder still has playful bursts of energy and an adorable habit of chewing and stuffing his soft bed when he’s self-soothing. He does not have a strong prey drive or the typical “Shiba scream,” tolerates grooming well, and sheds seasonally. His family is heartbroken to rehome him due to health limitations and hopes to find a loving home where he’ll be deeply cared for and understood. Sudder isn’t perfect—but he’s funny, loyal, and full of personality, and he’s looking for someone patient with a good sense of humor to love him back.
