Story
Meet Mae! 🐾 Mae is a wonderful companion who will thrive best in a calm, quiet home without other dogs, cats, or children. She bonds deeply with her person and does best as the center of attention. A fenced-in yard is highly recommended so Mae can safely enjoy the independence she loves while exploring her surroundings. Mae has a sweet, gentle nature and truly loves affection. She enjoys cuddling and will often lay across your legs at bedtime or while relaxing around the house. When transitioning into a new home, Mae will need a couple of weeks of grace to adjust—patience, reassurance, and lots of love will help her feel safe and secure. Feeding: Mae is a grazer and eats at her own pace. She is fed one cup of dog food in the morning and one cup at dinner. She enjoys chicken, turkey, and ground beef as occasional leftovers. Hawaiian King rolls are a favorite special treat and should be given sparingly. Mae is currently eating Hill’s Science Diet (chicken and barley). When she first arrives in a new home, she may not eat right away, but she will once she feels comfortable. House Training: Mae is fully house trained and will go to the door when she needs to go outside. She typically needs to relieve herself shortly after eating. When she needs to poop, she may try to engage you in play or begin pacing—these are her signals that it’s time to go out. Mae is crate trained and does well in a large crate. She responds to familiar cues and will go straight to her crate when you put on your coat or say, “I have to bye-bye.” She has never been crated for more than four hours at a time but can hold her bladder for six to eight hours if needed. Exercise and Play: Mae enjoys daily walks and does especially well when wearing a harness. She also loves car rides. Her favorite toys are stuffed animals and tennis balls. She has a special blanket that brings her comfort, which is usually placed in her crate. Mae will make a deeply loving and loyal addition to the right home. With patience, consistency, and affection, she will reward her person with endless companionship and love. The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A meet-and-greet is required for all shelter dogs if you already have a dog. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!
