For inquiries email donyea@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $400 Location: Suffolk, VA Meet Remi Remi is a precious little girl who is just beginning her new chapter in rescue after coming to us from the Chesapeake Animal Shelter as an owner surrender. While it was a difficult decision for her previous family, its clear that Remi is ready to find a loving home where she can truly thrive. Though shes still new and were getting to know her personality more each day, one thing is already certainRemi is incredibly sweet and gentle. She does have some cloudiness in her eyes, but she navigates her surroundings well, and her foster mom does not believe she is fully blind. Remi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines, so shes ready for her forever family. She has a great appetite (she loves mealtime!) and is making steady progress with house training. She is crate trained, sleeps peacefully through the night in her own bed, and has a calm, quiet natureshe rarely barks. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has even done well with a rabbit in her foster home, showing her gentle and easygoing temperament. Remi also enjoys cuddling and being close to her people, making her the perfect little companion. Remi is truly a hidden gema sweet, loving soul just waiting for the right family to see how special she is. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Story
For inquiries email lynne@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $400 Location: Suffolk, VA Update 5/25/2025:Chester remains happy and is ready for adoption Foster mom says, he is absolutely the easiest boy I have fostered. Hes happy and he loves everyone! He is a joy!   Meet Chester! He is a sweet senior poodle (mix) from the Chesapeake Animal Shelter. He is a sweet little old man looking for a warm lap and all the love he can handle! He was originally in a shelter and adopted to a family but ended up as a stray again. Now he is safe in our rescue and looking for a place to retire. He will need to see an eye specialist and the primary vet then he will be available for adoption. He is vision impaired but he doesnt let that get him down. He is a go with the flow kind of dude! Chester had his dental Monday, May 18th and came through with flying colors. Foster mom said he slept through the night, got up and took his meds like a champ then settled back down for a post op senior snooze! Chester is a very spry little man. What he lacks in vision he gained in heart. He is very loving. His tail wags all the time. Now that his dental is completed and his mouth is feeling so much better, he is loving life. He's just the perfect boy according to foster mom! Chester does have a low functioning thyroid. He is currently on medication for this and will need to remain on it for life. The medication costs about $3 a month from Chewy. He is also on eye drops for a few weeks. He will return to the eye specialist to see if he will need them forever. Chester is the victim of neglect. If someone would have taken him to the vet as a puppy, he most likely would not be blind. The eye specialist said her guess would be he had distemper as a puppy which can cause blindness. Routine vaccines can prevent so many unnecessary issues in dog. Please use this example as a reminder to vaccinate, spay/neuter, microchip, and test for heartworm disease. Simple testing and routine vet care can keep your dog healthy and happy for years to come. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Story
Just look at that smile! The little guy grinning from ear to ear is aptly named Happy Man, and honestly, we've never met a dog who wears his name more proudly. This charming young Miniature Poodle wakes up every day ready to share his joy with everyone around him. His tail wags with enthusiasm, his eyes sparkle with happiness, and his smile says it all. Happy Man's journey to Critter Cavalry Rescue began with heartbreak. When his beloved owner passed away, he and another dog were left alone in the home. Kind people made sure they were fed while a dedicated rescuer searched for help. Thankfully, Critter Cavalry Rescue stepped in, and this precious little boy was given a second chance at the future he deserves. At only 18 months old and weighing about 10 pounds, Happy Man has settled beautifully into foster care. There he received everything he needed to start fresh: a complete veterinary examination, neuter surgery, vaccinations, heartworm testing, fecal testing, a microchip, and all the loving care he could handle. He passed every health check with flying colors and is now eagerly waiting to find out where life will take him next. And what a wonderful life companion he will be. Happy Man is smart, affectionate, playful, and full of personality. He loves people and thrives on companionship. Like many young dogs, he is still learning a few things. He is almost housebroken and will need a family willing to establish a consistent outdoor potty routine. His elderly owner relied primarily on pee pads, so he simply needs a little guidance and patience as he learns new habits. The truth is that rescue dogs don't always arrive perfectly trained. They carry the effects of the lives they've lived before. But what matters most is who they are at heart—and Happy Man's heart is pure gold. If you're searching for a young dog who is healthy, intelligent, loving, and guaranteed to brighten your days, this little star deserves your attention. He has overcome loss, embraced a new beginning, and never lost his joyful spirit. Some dogs come into your life and make you smile. Happy Man is the kind of dog who makes you smile every single day. Could you be the lucky family he has been waiting for?   Contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested.   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJune 7, 2026, 3:11 pm
