Story
Lyle is an absolute sweetheart with a huge heart and so much love to give. When he bonds, he bonds deeply—he’s a true velcro dog who wants to be near his people and LOVES to cuddle. Lyle would do best in a calmer, low-traffic home, ideally with another confident dog who can help show him the ropes. He has lived a life full of neglect—about 3 years old and spent nearly all of that in an outdoor kennel. Despite his rough start, he is incredibly smart and has already mastered crate training! He is a small guy, only about 26 lbs fully grown. When he arrived, he was severely matted and needed to be shaved down to the skin, but his coat will grow back beautifully. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes and tries to play with them on occasion. He is still learning what toys are—he may have never had any before. He gets along well with the cats in his foster home and he is very gentle. He is mostly calm and enjoys sun bathing in the sun or any light that drifts in from the window. He does NOT like the cold and seems to enjoy wearing clothes. Lyle needs an adult only home. He can be very cautious when meeting new people, so anyone who meets him will need to understand that he needs time to adjust and patience. Lyle deserves a gentle, loving family who will give him the happy ending he’s waited his whole life for. This is rescue! He is currently undergoing treatment for heartworms. He has an appointment at Blue Ridge Vet in Purceville, VA on 1/15/26. If you are interested in adopting there is an application below! This is the first step. We do not schedule meet and greets without an approved application. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PDAR/Dog 98% of our adoptables come from out of state. There are higher fees associated as we have to pay to have the animals transported. We are a non-profit rescue. Any access revenue made is used to care for animals with additional medical expenditures that would otherwise result in adoptable dogs having to be left behind and euthanized.

Story
Meet Renzo !! We recently took in this guy when his family could not keep him due to allergies. “Doodles” ARE NOT HYPOALLERGENIC!! This is a common misconception with the doodle craze. They generally have a mixed hair type of both parents. Sadly many lose their homes when the puppy hair changes and the allergies are affected. Renzo is a 11 month old, male. He is supposed to be a Schnauzer and Poodle mix. He weighs 35 pounds. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is thankfully Heartworm negative and on preventatives. Renzo came to us with limited training and socialization aside from his brother. He’s learning a lot in his foster home. He is a very sweet, playful and fun puppy. He also has a very snuggly side after he has played. He does great with other dogs. He loves playing so another active playmate would be great for him. He can be extremely vocal when seeing and playing with other dogs. This can be upsetting to some dogs. He has not been around cats. Renzo was raised around kids and is very loving toward them. He is however an excitable puppy. He still jumps on people when excited. He may jump on or knock over little ones on accident. He is not always high strung but has bursts of excited energy where he forgets his manners. He is working hard on his puppy training but still has a ways to go. He is crate trained but won’t always go in on his own. He can be vocal about not wanting to be in there but he is learning. He is working on his leash training and will pull when excited. Renzo is good on car rides. He is doing fairly well with potty training. He does not go in his crate and tries to go to the door to let you know he has to go out. He still has some accidents at times until he learns the routine and schedule. He has a higher energy level. He needs an active family prepared to meet his energy needs and training needs. Both poodles and Schnauzers are breeds with a lot of energy. When you mix these breeds together you typically get a energetic dog that requires time and effort to exercise. A dog that is not given the proper outlet for their energy quickly becomes frustrated and will act out with negative behaviors. This is why it is vital to not pick a high energy dog if you are not committed to the work that comes with it. This sweet boy needs to play and run every day along with things that work his brain as well. Schnauzers are very intelligent dogs. He would do best with a fenced yard or an active daily runner. When he has been exercised properly he is very relaxed and calm in the house. He has not had any issues sharing toys, treats or food with humans. He’s shared well with other dogs so far but is fed separately so we aren’t sure how he would do about other dogs and his food. He is very food motivated. His foster says overall he’s a good puppy that just needs time and structure to learn. She says he is fairly easy to have in the home when given exercise each day. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Message us directly with questions or to get an application at VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for more pics and faster response visit our Facebook Page .‼️

Story
Meet Rory! Rory is a middle-aged poodle with a heart as soft as his curls. This sweet boy was found wandering nervously in the middle of the road, unsure of where to go next. Thankfully, a kind stranger scooped him up and brought him to safety, now he’s searching for the loving forever home he’s always deserved. Because of his past, Rory can be a little nervous when he first meets new people, but give him a moment and you’ll see his true personality shine through. Once he realizes he’s safe, he becomes an affectionate, gentle sweetheart who just wants to be near you. Don’t let his age fool you, Rory is full of playful energy and has a wonderfully spunky side! He absolutely loves other dogs and would be thrilled to have a canine companion to romp around with. Cute, charming, and endlessly endearing, Rory is ready to start his next chapter with someone who will love him as much as he’ll love them. Could that be you?

Story
Current Location: Strasburg, VA Hello! My name is Peaches! I'm thought to be a poodle mix about 1-2 years old. Foster mom says she thinks I look like a mini Irish Wolfhound. I came from a large hoarding situation so it's taking time for me to open up and get used to being cared for properly. But I'm going out in the fenced yard on my own now and I've started running and playing with the older pups in the yard. My crate is my safe place and I keep my pen area clean but walking on a leash is still pretty scary for me so my new home must have a fenced yard. My ideal family would be one who will be patient with me and let me open up at my own pace. I'm a sweet girl and foster mom thinks I'm going to be a wonderful addition to a family once I get comfortable. I'm microchipped, spayed and up-to- date on vaccines and preventatives and ready to go home with my new family.
