Story
When you get a call about a Scottish Terrier mix puppy needing a home, your ears perk right up — and honestly, ours perked up just like Baby Girl’s adorable little Scottie ears do now. This breed is rarely found in rescue, and this tiny dynamo is truly something special. Born on 10/31, she’s the daughter of a black Scottish Terrier dad and a mom said to be a Maltese, though you’ll be hard-pressed to find any Maltese influence in her looks. What you see is pure terrier confidence wrapped in a wiry little body. At just 8 pounds, she is compact, sturdy, and built like a tiny athlete — short legs, stocky frame, and strong as can be. We expect she’ll mature to around 15–18 pounds, but don’t let her size fool you. Baby Girl carries herself like she’s three times that weight. She fears nothing, especially not big dogs, and approaches life with bold curiosity and enthusiasm.   This girl is wicked smart. She’s already doing well with pee pads and understands going outside to potty. She’s learning leash walking — not her favorite activity yet — but with her intelligence and love of treats, she’ll master it in no time. She is very treat motivated, which makes training both fun and productive. In fact, she needs someone excited about channeling her bright little mind. Couch potatoes need not apply; this is a pup who wants to explore the neighborhood, meet people, and make you the most popular house on the block. At bedtime, her personality softens into pure sweetness. She loves sleeping in bed and will climb right up onto your pillow, settling in like your personal little “night hat.” She adores shaggy dog beds and has a hilarious habit of collecting unattended shoes and proudly storing them in her bed like trophies. When she plays with the Brussels Griffon in her foster home, she is dramatic and vocal — all noise and playful mouth, no biting — sounding like a 35-pound dog trapped in a tiny body. She’s fast, athletic, and would happily chase squirrels all day long, so early recall training will be important.   Her wiry coat may change in shading as she grows, but her confidence and spark are here to stay. Baby Girl is not just a puppy — she’s a personality, a conversation starter, and a whole lot of fun packed into a small, sturdy frame. If you’re ready for laughter, energy, and a smart little terrier spirit in your life, contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com. She is ready to go and ready to claim her forever home.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comFebruary 19, 2026, 12:17 am

Story
Meet Lisa, a 7-year-old Cairn Terrier mix with a scruffy beige-and-white coat and an expressive little face that tells you exactly how she’s feeling. At just over 21 pounds, she’s a perfectly portable small dog with a big personality.Lisa came to us after struggling with housebreaking for several years. After a full medical workup, our veterinary team discovered and surgically removed multiple bladder stones caused by a long-standing urinary tract infection. She has recovered well from surgery, her follow-up culture was negative, and she’s feeling much more comfortable. Going forward, she’ll benefit from regular bathroom breaks, plenty of fresh water, and periodic urine checks with her future veterinarian.Because house soiling was part of her history for several years, Lisa will need a patient, understanding adopter committed to positive reinforcement and consistency. Setting her up with a predictable routine, close supervision, and possibly a small, easy-to-clean confinement area when unsupervised will help her succeed.Personality-wise, Lisa is a sensitive, thoughtful girl who appreciates when people move at her pace. When meeting new friends, she may show a little stress at first, but once she feels comfortable, she seeks out scritches, leans in sweetly, and even offers her belly. She enjoys exploring rooms at her own speed, sniffing enrichment toys like snuffle mats and puzzle feeders, and taking leisurely walks (she prefers to stop and smell the roses rather than power-walk the block).Lisa would likely do best with older, dog-savvy children who understand canine body language and “consent to pet.” She previously lived with other pets but may prefer a calmer environment now; if there’s a resident dog in the home, a dog meet will be required to ensure a good match. This wiry-haired sweetheart is looking for a calm, compassionate home that will advocate for her, respect her signals, and celebrate her small victories. With patience and love, Lisa will reward her people with gentle affection, loyal companionship, and the quiet joy of a little dog who finally feels safe and understood. If you are interested in adopting Lisa, please visit the shelter during our adoption hours.
