Looking for a loyal sidekick? Charlie is the kind of dog who wants to do life with you.
Charlie is a handsome 2-year-old Lab mix who loves being outside, whether it’s exploring the backyard, going for walks, or simply soaking up the sunshine. At home, he’s happiest wherever his people are. Whether you’re gardening, relaxing on the couch, or heading out for an adventure, Charlie just wants to be by your side.
Charlie is a smart boy who already knows sit, down, leave it, and usually comes when called. He’s fully house trained, enjoys learning new things, and loves a game of fetch—bringing the ball back most of the time! He also loves carrying around and playing with his favorite stuffy toys. And like any proud Lab mix, Charlie believes a little black dog hair is the perfect accessory for every outfit.
One of the best things about Charlie is watching his personality continue to blossom. As he’s settled into foster care, he’s become more playful, bounds across the yard with joyful enthusiasm, and has started showing his goofy side. Seeing him discover how to simply enjoy being a dog has been incredibly rewarding.
Charlie does have some challenges, and we want to be up front about them so we can find the right forever home. He experiences anxiety and can become highly aroused by things in his environment. He is reactive on leash to other dogs, bicycles, scooters, people, and small animals, and he has a strong prey drive. He also struggles with being left alone and is working through kennel/separation stress. Charlie is currently receiving medications and is just beginning training. He is muzzle trained and would do best with an adopter who is patient, committed to continuing his training, and willing to work with a qualified trainer as he continues to learn how to regulate his big emotions.
Charlie can tolerate well-matched medium and large dogs, but he could also be perfectly happy as your one-and-only. Because of his strong prey drive, he needs a home without cats, small dogs, or other small pets.
Charlie forms deep bonds with his people. After experiencing more change than any young dog should, he’s learning that home can be a place where he feels safe, secure, and loved. He’s making progress with routine, medication, and the support of a patient foster family who is helping him build confidence.
Charlie isn’t looking for a perfect family—he’s looking for HIS family. Someone who will appreciate his intelligence, celebrate his progress, give him the structure he needs, and enjoy watching him continue to grow into the amazing dog he’s meant to be.
