Story
Meet Max, a 3-year-old Shar Pei weighing about 50 pounds, and we’re pretty sure his smooshed little face was engineered specifically to make people fall in love with him. Max is an incredibly friendly, happy guy who loves meeting new people and is always thrilled to have visitors. He’s affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he can be near his people, but he’s also perfectly content to settle into his own bed when it’s time to wind down. He’s been an absolute joy to have in his foster home and has proven to be a very easygoing housemate. When Max isn’t busy being everyone’s new best friend, he’s got places to go and smells to investigate. He absolutely loves being outside and enjoys walks, especially when there’s something interesting for his nose to inspect. Trees, bushes, mysterious bunny activity… Max considers it all important investigative work. He does pull a little on leash, but his foster family has been working with him and he’s already improving. Bunnies, however, remain his greatest test of self-control because they are apparently VERY exciting. Max also has a delightfully goofy side. He enjoys playing with toys, occasionally gets the zoomies, and has been known to chase his own little curled tail. Basically, underneath that serious Shar Pei face is a pretty silly dude. Max is house-trained and does well with dogs of all sizes and both sexes. He’ll need a cat-free home, and because he has not been exposed to children in his foster home, we’re recommending a home without small children. When he’s very sleepy, Max can get a little grumpy about being disturbed, so his future family should be respectful of his space when he’s resting. Max does have some mild separation anxiety and does not currently do well with being crated. His foster family has been taking things slowly and helping him become more comfortable with alone time and confinement. The good news is that he generally does well when his foster mom leaves and isn’t a barky guy. He just gets a little restless when he realizes he’s been separated from his person. Sweet, social, playful, curious, and sporting one of the most delightfully smooshed faces around, Max is ready to find a family who will appreciate his big personality and give him the time and patience he needs to keep learning. His minimum adoption fee is $200, plus a $15 fee for rabies registration for McLean County residents if 4 months or older. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
