🥑❤️ Are you ready to fall in love? Meet Jackie Avocado! ❤️🥑
Jackie's story started on the side of a very busy road, very pregnant and in need of help. A good Samaritan got her safely to the Jackson County Shelter, where she gave birth to 11 puppies.
Delivering such a large litter took a toll on Jackie's backside, and the decision was made to separate the puppies. Two amazing fosters stepped up to bottle-feed three puppies each, while a third took Jackie and her remaining five babies. As it turned out, bottle-feeding wasn't needed! Jackie stepped right into her role as a devoted and attentive mama.
Now that her babies are becoming more independent, Jackie is discovering that there's more to life than motherhood!
She's being fostered with six resident dogs ranging in age from 6 months to 7 years and gets along with them all. Outside, she loves running and playing with her foster siblings. Occasionally, she'll grab a toy and take off with it just for fun! Inside, she's learning to relax, enjoying comfy beds, and investigating all the toys and chews available. She's even been spotted enjoying a good bone!
Jackie is deaf, but don't let that intimidate you. Communicating with her is surprisingly easy! She understands signs for no, stop, off, leave it, come, stay, outside, potty, eat, and lay down. We're still working on figuring out her sign for sit. A flashlight works great for getting her attention when it's time to come inside after dark.
Jackie is being fostered in a home with cats. She isn't particularly fond of them and will bark at some, although there is one confident feline she doesn't seem bothered by. They are kept separated by gates.
Now for some great news: Jackie is completely housebroken! She lets you know when she needs to go outside, doesn't need to be crated, and has shown no destructive behaviors.
She does need some leash manners work because she tends to pull. The good news is she's food and treat motivated, and a harness should help make those walks more enjoyable.
One thing her future family should know is that Jackie can growl when another dog gets too close to her food bowl. However, her foster has been able to put an entire hand into her full food bowl while Jackie is eating without incident. She'll benefit from having her own space and being allowed to enjoy her meals without other dogs crowding her.
And now for the really important stuff...
Jackie is a cuddler! She loves booty scratches, and when she's excited, her smile is BIG! Her foster describes her as a pretty easy girl to have in the home.
Jackie has spent a lot of time being a wonderful mama. Now it's her turn to be someone's baby. ❤️
