Story

Rio is one of our shelter fire survivors. When Rio first came to us, he was in a dark place - afraid and growly. With time and patience, he has opened up and showing a happier, playful side. If he knows and trusts you, he is very affectionate. He is wary of strangers and takes time to warm up. We are not sure of what his previous background is that caused him to be so wary but he is learning that there are nice people in the world. He has done great with the shelter staff and dog walkers that he knows but wary of those he is unfamiliar with. In one unfortunate incident, someone who did not have much previous interaction with Rio was bitten on the hand despite the sign on his run that no one was to approach him without management approval. With people Rio knows and is comfortable he loves to be in the play yard with them. He will romp and try to play catch me if you can when he knows its time to head back in - it is very cute to watch. Rio would do best in a quieter home without kids or other dogs and someone who understands to allow him to get acclimated at his own pace. Rio is also housebroken and walks well on a leash. He is 2-3 years old and 70 pounds. Please help Rio find the loving home he deserves. We do NOT ship our animals. All adoptive families must travel to us to meet their adoptive dog/cat. Applicants must live within a 2 hour radius from Sparta/Andover (07871/07821). Please understand that we are an animal shelter and thus unable to say whether the dogs are housebroken as they are not in homes. Gentle soul, great with other dogs > > > This puppy Is spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, treated for all of the intestinal parasites, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Because intestinal parasites are cyclical, your puppy may need additional treatment once you get him/her home. This is common and nothing to be alarmed about. Puppies and dogs need to be treated periodically for parasites throughout their entire lives. The adoption fee is $550 if your adoption is prepaid prior to your pup's arrival. An additional $50 will be charged on puppies that are adopted at an event, or foster home. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with CT HB 5368. WANT TO MEET OUR DOGS IN PERSON? More and more of our adopters are having fun with DNA tests on their pups. You might ask yourself why our breed guess is varying degrees of difference from the DNA tests. Most of our puppies are rescued from high kill shelters or other abandonment situations and we have no info on parents. When we rescue puppies that have no background info, we make our very best educated guess as to breed mix and age. Our guesstimate comes from years and years and years of animal welfare work and training, but our guesses won't always agree with your vet, your neighbor, your DNA test, etc. The most important thing to know about your puppy's breed mix is that most likely he/she is a Super Lovable Mutt made of many many many different breeds. If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at the Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 11 am-1 pm. An additional $100 fee will be added for any dogs picked up from the Woburn MA quarantine facility. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with MA Order 405-CD-12 and Order 1-AHO-05. Lollipop is a little sweetheart and she has tons of personality! Her mom is a small B&W rat terrier mix and dad is a doodle. Mom was taken in as a stray by a lady with an unaltered doodle. Before she could find a rescue to help with mom, she became pregnant. Lollipop was the runt in the litter. She is friendly, loving and smart! She is also a major snuggler! She likes to wrap her head around your neck and nestle in! Lolli is great with other dogs and people of all ages. She has not been around a cat yet but we are confident she will be fine with proper intro. Being the runt, she always seems to end up on the bottom and she still plays hard and never gets mad! Lolli is healthy, UTD on puppy shots and worming. She will be spayed and microchipped before going to her forever home. Based on puppy weight calculators we think she will be between 25 and 35 lbs. She was found scavenging for food in trash cans and luckily a kind rescue hearted woman took her home. &#226&#156&#168 At just 2 years of age and 44 pounds, this beautiful Poodle girl Charlie has already been through so much that she does not deserve. She came to us after the caring individual who found her, tried everything they could to help her get healthy. Her illness and symptoms were just puzzling and frustrating for a diagnosis. After thorough testing, we finally uncovered the truth about Princess Charlie. She has Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). This means her body can’t properly digest food without daily enzyme supplements. The good news is that it is treatable with a consistent drug being administered. Dogs with EPI can live happy, full, completely normal lives. The reality, though, is that her medication will be lifelong and averages about $200 per month. We know that someone is out there with the financial resources to love her and give her the medication monthly that will be her lifeline for a good long life. Princess Charlie will need someone fully invested in her health — someone committed not just to loving her, but to advocating for her and keeping her on the treatment plan she needs to thrive. This girl is SO worth it. What we know about this special needs girl we call Princess Charlie, is that she is the sweetest, smartest little girl.
