Story
We have a transport leaving on 2/21/26 from where we are located in Southern California to NorCal, OR, and surrounding states as needed for our adopting families where we bring our dogs all the way to their homes 💗 For peace of mind we never ask for anything up front. The adoption fee along with your share of travel costs will be due the day we arrive in person ultimately finalizing the adoption then and there with you. We would love to add Baxter to our trip for the right family 😊 Baxter is a truly special boy and one of those dogs that instantly makes an impression the moment you meet him. He is a beautiful mix of two incredible breeds — his mom was a purebred black Labrador and his dad a purebred Old English Sheepdog. While his coat gives him the look of a big, scruffy terrier, his texture and feel definitely lean toward the sheepdog side, with only very mild shedding. He is incredibly handsome, unique, and full of charm. His birthday is 2/19/25. He is just about 11 months old. He had a full veterinary exam on 1/12/26. He is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and will be fully cleared by our veterinarian prior to adoption. Our vet feels it is appropriate to neuter him at this time, so he set his neuter date for 1/13/26. we are taking care of that as well prior to his adoption. With both Labradors and Old English Sheepdogs being breeds that can be prone to hip dysplasia, we are very thoughtful about timing when it comes to sterilization. From our experience, allowing growth plates to fully close before neutering is often the safest option, which typically occurs around 11-12 months of age and sometimes closer to 12–18 months. With his exam going as well as it did, our vet is confident that neutering him now at 11 months is safe moving forward 💙 Baxter’s temperament is nothing short of phenomenal. He is incredibly sweet, attentive, and impressively intelligent. He listens beautifully, comes when called, and already knows sit, stay, and come. He is wonderful on leash and genuinely enjoys his walks, making him a joy to take out and about. He also loves road trips and is always ready for the next adventure. Despite his size and athletic ability, he is not an over-the-top high-energy dog. He adapts seamlessly to the energy of his people — whether that means joining you for a walk, tagging along on errands, or happily curling up for a lazy day binge-watching your favorite shows or taking a midday nap. He truly just wants to be part of your day, whatever that looks like. True to the Labrador in him, Baxter absolutely loves water and will swim at a moment’s notice 😅. He is not a barker, but he will alert you if someone unfamiliar approaches — a trait we often see in sheepdog mixes. That said, once he understands someone is a friend of his family, his tail is wagging and he is happy to greet them. Baxter is wonderful with other dogs and does beautifully with men, women, and children alike. He has lived with children and absolutely adores them — including ours. His prior owner loved him deeply but made the difficult decision to rehome him when he realized that his children were not as interested in a dog as he had hoped. While at work, Baxter spent more time alone than he deserved, and his owner wanted him to have a family that could truly appreciate and include him the way he knew Baxter deserved. It was a decision made purely out of love and wanting the best possible life for this sweet boy. He is crate trained and sleeps peacefully in his crate all night. He is also fully house trained and does wonderfully in the home. He follows our established schedule of going outside every 3–4 hours with the rest of our pack, and on the rare occasion he needs to go out in between, he will gently paw at you to let you know. His current estimated weight is 64 pounds, and we do not anticipate much additional growth. He is a solid, and healthy boy 😊 His adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of his adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/baxter This fee covers his veterinary care, including his exam, neuter, vaccines, microchip and registration, and the time, care, training, and stability he has received while with us. Our vet did notice mild allergies during his exam with slight inflammation in his ears so he is administering a Cytopoint injection to alleviate those symptoms. That's reflected in his adoption fee above as well. Baxter is truly one of those dogs that just gets life with his people — loyal, loving, steady, and joyful. Anyone will see how special he is the moment they meet him. 🐾💙

We would love to add Layla to our trip for the right family 😊 Layla is a beautiful 3-year-old purebred Standard Poodle who truly embodies everything people love about the breed and then some. She is set to be spayed on 2/3/26, and once that is complete, her adoption listing will be updated to reflect all final veterinary care. Prior to being cleared for adoption, Layla will be fully vetted, including being spayed, having her yearly vaccines brought current, being microchipped and registered, and receiving a thorough exam with our trusted veterinarian. Layla weighs approximately between 45–50 lbs, and I will update her exact weight at her spay appointment. She is not a big girl by any means—leggy, yes, but that is natural for a poodle. She is naturally lean, petite, and beautifully built 💕 She is wonderful with other dogs and cats alike, but her true joy comes from her humans. Layla is happiest when your eyes and hands are on her 😊 She has the most contagious smile, and it’s nearly impossible not to feel that same joy radiating back at you when she’s around. She truly is all that you love about the poodle breed—loyal, confident, intelligent, sweet, doting, caring, attentive, and the absolute best friend you could ever ask for. I could go on for days about how incredible she is and how blessed you will be to have her join you in life. Layla is wonderful in the home and has impeccable house manners. She is crate trained and sleeps peacefully in her crate all night long. She knows her crate well and will walk right in the moment it’s opened for her. That said, she is very adaptable and could easily transition to sleeping on a bed beside you if that’s what you prefer—because who wouldn’t want to be closer to the ones they love? She is not a barker, but she will alert you if she feels something unfamiliar is worth investigating. She listens beautifully, allows her person to lead in any situation, and has incredible eye contact. At times it truly feels like she’s reading your thoughts before you even say a word. Layla is wonderful at the groomer, and while she doesn’t currently have a traditional poodle cut, once her coat is fully grown back she will be just as stunning as ever. She travels exceptionally well and does great on road trips of any length. She knows sit, stay, come, and “off.” Layla does love to give hugs—very gently and with so much emotion and love. While we don’t encourage jumping, her hugs are done so sweetly that we allow them on occasion, while also making sure she understands “off” for anyone who may not appreciate a loving poodle embrace. Layla came to us after her prior owner sadly passed away. Without immediate living family or children, a kind neighbor reached out to us. She already had three dogs of her own but knew Layla deserved to be somewhere safe and loving rather than placed in a cold shelter. Her goal was simple—to see Layla return to a home where she would be loved the way she always had been. Adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/layla This includes her spay, current yearly vaccines, microchip and registration, veterinary exam, and the care, grooming, and training she has received while in our care. If anything additional is required, such as a dental cleaning, the adoption fee will be adjusted accordingly to help offset those costs.

The adoption fee along with your share of travel costs will be due the day we arrive in person ultimately finalizing the adoption then and there with you. We would love to add Gemma to our trip for the right family 😊 Gemma is a truly special girl, and the kind of dog who quietly changes your life once she chooses you as her person. She is a 3-year-old Aussiedoodle with a very fine, wavy to slightly curly coat that is hypoallergenic, so you won’t have to worry about shedding. Gemma is small framed and naturally petite, estimating around 35–40 lbs, and she is fully grown. Her weight will be updated following her upcoming spay. Gemma is set to be spayed on 2/3/26, and her adoption listing will be updated once that is complete to include all finalized veterinary care. Temperament-wise, Gemma is nothing short of exceptional. She is sweet, kind, loving, attentive, and incredibly intelligent — observant in a way that is hard to put into words. She prefers to be near her person, always aware of where you are, quietly devoted, and eager to become someone’s lifelong companion. She is cautious by nature when meeting new people, so we are looking for a confident and patient adopter who understands that Gemma opens her heart thoughtfully. But once she does, she never closes it again. When Gemma loves you, that bond runs deep and lasts a lifetime. Gemma is wonderful with other dogs, both big and small, and she adores children. She loves our family as a whole — men, women, and children alike — and once she loves you, that’s it. She is not a barker, but she will alert you to unfamiliar noises. She has excellent house manners, travels beautifully on road trips of any length, and is absolutely phenomenal at the groomer. Energy-wise, Gemma is beautifully balanced. She is not high energy, but she has no trouble keeping up with you and whatever adventures the day may bring. At the same time, she is perfectly content to relax, cuddle, and simply be close to you. Gemma came to us because her previous owner loved her deeply but did not have the space she deserved. Rather than confining her to a small area, she made the selfless decision to give Gemma the chance at a fuller, happier life — one with room to thrive. Gemma is an incredible dog in every sense. She is gentle, loyal, and deeply devoted, and she will make someone unbelievably happy to spend their life with. Adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/gemma-1 This includes her spay, vaccines, microchip and registration, and exam with our vet, along with the care, grooming costs, and training she has received while in our care. If anything additional is needed, such as a dental cleaning, the adoption fee may be adjusted to help offset those costs.
