- Prefers to explore and do their own thing here in the shelter, but will likely open up more once they're in a home environment and have had time to decompress - Active dog who is ready to accompany you on all your adventures; looking for a family who loves being active just like them - Tends to be an introvert around other dogs and may prefer one-on-one interactions or smaller groups of dog friends; may not be comfortable at dog parks or at large, dog-friendly events (dog intro recommended) - Tends to be socially awkward with other dogs (dog intro recommended)- Loves going on walks and does best with a harness- Needs a teens and above home nowAll adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: White Weight: 70 Age: 2yrs 0mths 3wks

Story
HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet her, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to new people and environments that dogs typically get from puppyhood; because of this she startles easily and will require time, patience and the understanding that she may prefer a more "low-key" life - Really opens up around other dogs and draws confidence from them, so we are requiring that she go to a home with a resident dog to set up for success. Here's how the difference looked when she went to her foster home: While she was uncertain and insecure being around her foster family, that changed instantly when she met their resident dog - the two hit it off immediately and within seconds she came out of her shell, bouncing, wagging her tail and seeking affection from people- In her foster home she loves pets and snuggles, rolls over for belly rubs, leans into people, crawls into laps and reaches out with her paw for more attention - Loves chews and bones and is still learning about toys; has started to play fetch and tug- Loves being brushed and will lie down calmly for full-body grooming- Walks nicely on leash and is comfortable with a collar or harness; still may do best with a standalone home and yard for potty breaks- Enjoys relaxing near her family and watching while they cook or do chores; has been good about not being underfoot and does not seem bothered by household noises- Treat-motivated and picks up on training quickly; knows sit, come, and in, and she's working on down- Has been learning housetraining by watching her family's resident dog and has had only a few accidents - Does well in a crate at night, and is typically OK for a few hours in her crate if she can see the other dog when her family is not home, but has also been known to break out of crates when stressed - Loves playing with the dog in her foster home - running, chasing, playing keep away and play-fighting; can get a little intense, but she also listens well and backs off when the other dog tells her it's too much; loves to cuddle with the resident dog when they're receptive- Young, noisy or busy children will likely be too much for her right now, so she's looking for a more mature home - We don't know her history with cats All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs.
