This beautiful 4-year-old Shepherd mix has a spectacular set of ears that shoot straight toward the heavens like two velvety Doritos desperately trying to pick up a signal from literally anywhere but Earth.Darcy arrived at the shelter with her sister, Dixie, as an owner surrender, and we’re still getting to know these two lovely ladies. Every day, we learn a little more about who they are, what makes them comfortable, and what kind of life will help them thrive.Darcy is a nervous little lady who appears to have limited experience with people and the whole concept of receiving affection. She will accept gentle pets, but she needs a moment to assess the situation first. Essentially, Darcy is running a very exclusive background check. You will be observed. Your credentials will be reviewed. Your vibes will be thoroughly investigated.Darcy`s world has been turned upside down, and she needs patient adopters who understand that trust isn`t built overnight. She needs time, space, gentle encouragement, and the freedom to move at her own pace without being pressured into interactions she`s not ready for.We don`t believe we`ve had the true privilege of meeting the real Darcy beneath those survival instincts just yet, but we are SO excited to see her personality begin to emerge. We suspect there`s a whole lot of dog in there waiting to come out once she feels safe enough to let her guard down. With time, consistency, patience, and an open heart, we believe Darcy has every opportunity to blossom.Darcy arrived with her sister, Dixie, and the girls get along with one another. However, neither lady is particularly interested in dogs who don`t understand the concept of PERSONAL SPACE.You know the type. The helicopter dogs. The ones who bounce directly into another dog`s face like they`ve just been launched from a malfunctioning trampoline. The ones who hear “settle down” and interpret it as a personal challenge.Yeah. Darcy and Dixie would like to unsubscribe.These girls would much prefer a laid-back companion who understands boundaries, respects the bubble, and doesn`t feel the need to turn every Tuesday into the canine Olympics.If you have another dog, a meet-and-greet is required to ensure everyone is comfortable and compatible.Darcy would thrive in a quiet, low-traffic home with attentive adopters who appreciate the beauty of a slower introduction and understand that shy dogs need the opportunity to decompress.Because she`s easily overwhelmed, we do not recommend a home with small children. The fast movements, big voices, and unpredictable energy can be a lot for a girl who`s still figuring out whether the world is a safe place.Darcy isn`t looking for a loud, busy household where she has to hit the ground running. She`s looking for her safe place. Her people. Her routine.
