Story
I’m Kurt, and if you’re reading this, I’m hoping it means my forever family might finally be out there. I’m about three years old, around 25 pounds, and—if you ask the humans at Central Arizona Animal Rescue—some kind of Shiba Inu mix… though honestly, your guess is as good as anyone’s. What I do know is that I’m a good boy with a big heart, a gentle spirit, and a story that’s ready for a new chapter. I didn’t come here alone. I arrived at a California pound with my whole family—my mate and our four pups, all around two years old now. We were one big pack who had lived our whole lives together. We were friendly, social, and sweet, but we didn’t know much about the world. Our previous owners must have gotten overwhelmed, because even though they clearly cared about us, we never learned things like how to walk on a leash or what “sit” means. I’m still figuring out how to be a dog in a human world, but I’m trying hard, and I’m proud of how far I’ve already come. Life at Central Arizona Animal Rescue has been a huge change, but a good one. The people here are kind, patient, and always cheering me on. They say I’m gentle, quiet, and easy to love. I don’t bark much, and I warm up quickly once I know you’re safe. I’m curious about everything—grass under my paws, toys, treats, the sound of a leash clipping on. Every day I learn something new, and every day I get a little braver. I’m not sure if I’ve ever lived inside a house before, so things like couches, TVs, and vacuum cleaners might be new to me. I don’t know how I feel about cats or small children yet, but I do know I love people who move slowly, speak kindly, and give me time to understand what’s happening. I’m not a high-energy dog; I’m more of a soft, steady companion who wants to be near you, learn from you, and trust you. The rescue has taken great care of me. I’ve been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, so I’m ready to start my new life the moment the right person walks through the door. I dream about that moment a lot—someone kneeling down, offering a hand, and saying, “Hey, Kurt… let’s go home.” Maybe that someone is you. I may not know many commands yet, and I may need a little patience as I learn how to live in a home, but I promise I’ll give you something even better in return: loyalty, gratitude, and a heart that’s been waiting a long time to belong to someone. If you’d like to meet me—and maybe even the rest of my family—you can set up an appointment by emailing mike@caaronline.org. We’re all waiting here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, hoping for the day we each find a home where we can grow, learn, and finally feel safe. Are you the one who’ll give me my forever?   PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Story
Hello… I’m Joan, and I’d love to share a little bit about myself. Maybe my story will sound like exactly what you’ve been looking for. I’m a gentle, two&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old girl weighing around 25 pounds, with a soft white coat decorated by tan patches that make me look a bit like a watercolor painting. I come from a big family — my mom, my dad, my three siblings, and me — and we all ended up together at a California shelter when our world suddenly shifted. We’d spent our whole lives side by side, and then everything changed overnight. Even with all that uncertainty, I’ve held onto my quiet optimism. I’m naturally curious, hopeful, and ready for a new beginning. Right now, I’m staying at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, where the volunteers have been incredibly kind. They say I’m one of the “light-colored girls” in the group, and people often stop to admire my soft markings and sweet expression. I don’t think much about how I look, but I do know I love gentle hands, calm voices, and people who move slowly enough for me to understand what’s happening. I’m friendly and social, just like the rest of my family, but I’m still learning what it means to live in a human world. Before arriving here, I don’t think I ever lived inside a home. Everything indoors feels new and a little mysterious — couches, hallways, the strange hum of appliances, even the idea of walking politely on a leash. Words like “sit” and “stay” are still things I’m figuring out, but I’m smart and eager to learn. I just need someone patient who understands that I’m starting from scratch. I promise I’ll give you my whole heart and try my best every day. I’m not a noisy dog, and I don’t have a wild, high&#226&#128&#145energy personality. I’m more of a calm, steady companion who likes to watch and understand before jumping into anything unfamiliar. I warm up quickly once I know you’re kind, and I love being close to people who make me feel safe. I haven’t met cats or small children yet, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about them, but I do wonderfully with gentle humans who give me time to adjust. The rescue has taken excellent care of me. I’ve been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, so I’m all ready for my next chapter. What I need now is a home where I can truly grow — a place where I can learn what it means to belong, to be loved, and to have a family of my own. I imagine quiet mornings with soft sunlight, cozy beds where I can curl up, slow walks as I practice leash skills, and peaceful evenings resting nearby while you unwind. I imagine trust. I imagine routine. I imagine finally feeling like I’m home. Maybe you’re imagining that too. I may not know everything yet, but I do know this: I have a gentle spirit, a big heart, and so much love waiting for the right person. I’m ready for a fresh start. I’m ready for someone who chooses me. If you’d like to meet me — or even meet the rest of my family — you can email mike@caaronline.org to set up a visit. We’re all here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, each of us hoping for a forever home where we can grow into the dogs we were always meant to be. Maybe I’m meant to be yours.   PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Story
Meet Shirley — A Sweet Soul Ready for Her Forever Home Some dogs have a way of capturing your heart the moment you meet them, and Shirley is absolutely one of those dogs. With her soft blond coat, gentle eyes, and warm, hopeful spirit, she’s the kind of companion who makes every day feel a little brighter. Now, after an unexpected journey that brought her all the way from California to Central Arizona Animal Rescue, she’s ready to find the loving home she truly deserves. Shirley’s story begins in California, where she ended up in the pound along with her entire family — her two sisters, her brother, and even her mom and dad. It’s rare to see a whole canine family come through together, and it speaks to how closely bonded they were. Thankfully, caring people stepped in to help, arranging safe transport for Shirley so she could start fresh in Arizona. She’s now safe, healthy, and waiting patiently for someone special to discover her. About Shirley Shirley is about 2 years old, a wonderful age where she’s past the puppy chaos but still full of youthful energy and curiosity. She weighs a comfortable 25–30 pounds, making her a great size for someone who wants a dog who’s sturdy enough for outdoor fun but still easy to handle and snuggle. Her coat is a beautiful light blond, short and smooth, and very easy to care for. A quick brushing now and then and the occasional bath are all she needs to stay looking her best. Her soft coloring gives her a gentle, almost angelic appearance — and her personality matches it perfectly. Based on her siblings and their features, Shirley may be a mix of Jack Russell Terrier and Shiba Inu, a combination known for intelligence, alertness, and a sweet, loyal nature. Whatever her exact mix, she’s a lovely, unique girl with a look all her own. Her Personality Shirley is friendly, social, and eager to connect with people and other dogs. She enjoys meeting new friends and has a calm, approachable presence that makes her easy to love. Whether she’s quietly observing the world around her or wagging her tail at a visitor, she radiates a gentle charm. Because her past is somewhat unknown, there are still a few things we haven’t been able to test. We don’t yet know how she feels about cats or small children, simply because she hasn’t been around them in our care. She may do wonderfully — we just haven’t had the chance to find out. She also may not have lived indoors before, so she’ll need a patient adopter who can help her learn the routines of home life. With kindness and consistency, she’s sure to adapt beautifully. ‍♀️ Training & Care Shirley is spayed, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations, so she’s fully prepared to start her new life. She’s working on her leash skills and could use a bit more practice, but she’s eager to learn and responds well to gentle guidance. With a little time and encouragement, she’ll be a wonderful walking companion. Her short coat makes grooming simple, and her size makes her a great fit for a variety of homes — whether you have a yard, enjoy daily walks, or simply want a sweet companion by your side. Ready to Meet Shirley? Shirley is ready for a home where she can feel safe, loved, and part of a family. She’s the kind of dog who will reward your patience with loyalty, affection, and a lifetime of companionship. If you’d like to meet this beautiful girl and see if she’s the perfect match for your home, please email mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. Shirley can’t wait to meet you and start her new life.   PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Story
Seraphine is a 4 year old, 31 pound Shiba Inu blend who joined us recently. She's a little shy in new situations and is looking for a family to give her a little bit of time to learn a new routine and a new environment. She knows basic commands such as sit, but she's also very food motivated and has selective hearing regarding commands if food is present. She enjoys chew toys and stuffed animals, but her favorite activity is water play! She enjoys playing with the hose, the splash pad and the kiddie pool. She is a very gentle lady when accepting a treat or reward. She is a very bright and inquisitive girl who is house and dog door trained. Her foster home has introduced her to car rides and leashes, and she's getting the hang of both! Seraphine gains confidence from other dogs, so she'll need a canine sibling, in her new home. To get started in the process for meeting Seraphine, please visit https://azfriends.org/testing/adopt.html to complete an adoption consultation form, then come by the Adoption Center to meet with an adoption counselor. No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the animal. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)! Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).

HELLOOO new family! I am so excited to meet you! I'm gonna have you giggling nonstop because I'm so happy and goofy. I was born without the piece of my brain that helps me balance (*cerebellar hypoplasia), so I wiggle all over the place. Basically I just love to dance funky all the time! I'm probably gonna be famous soon, so you should adopt me before the pup-parazzi finds me and the whole world wants in on this cuteness. And don't worry, I'm not going to get any worse--I just need you to love me as I am: crazy dancer but always happy to see you. Bonus? I'm already kennel & potty trained. Just because I'm goofy doesn't mean I don't know how to behave! Contact Mayday if you'd like to meet me and I promise to show you all my moves! Ali might be good with older children and would do best in a home without other dogs. *Cerebellar hypoplasia is a permanent neurological condition that causes permanent balance and coordination issues. Cerebellar hypoplasia causes jerky movements, tremors and generally uncoordinated motion. The animal often falls down and has trouble walking. To manage this condition for your pet, it is vital that you understand your pet's physical limitations. As your pet may have difficulty controlling movement, you may need to assist your pet when eating and drinking. Providing your pet with a safe environment is essential. Due to the imbalance and wide stance, stairs and uneven ground may cause a hazard. A non-slip, flat surface, such as carpeting, is an ideal environment for your pet.* If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please visit our site at www.maydaypitbullrescue.org or send us an email at info@maydaypitbullrescue.org ##654651##
