Story
I’m Kurt, and if you’re reading this, I’m hoping it means my forever family might finally be out there. I’m about three years old, around 25 pounds, and—if you ask the humans at Central Arizona Animal Rescue—some kind of Shiba Inu mix… though honestly, your guess is as good as anyone’s. What I do know is that I’m a good boy with a big heart, a gentle spirit, and a story that’s ready for a new chapter. I didn’t come here alone. I arrived at a California pound with my whole family—my mate and our four pups, all around two years old now. We were one big pack who had lived our whole lives together. We were friendly, social, and sweet, but we didn’t know much about the world. Our previous owners must have gotten overwhelmed, because even though they clearly cared about us, we never learned things like how to walk on a leash or what “sit” means. I’m still figuring out how to be a dog in a human world, but I’m trying hard, and I’m proud of how far I’ve already come. Life at Central Arizona Animal Rescue has been a huge change, but a good one. The people here are kind, patient, and always cheering me on. They say I’m gentle, quiet, and easy to love. I don’t bark much, and I warm up quickly once I know you’re safe. I’m curious about everything—grass under my paws, toys, treats, the sound of a leash clipping on. Every day I learn something new, and every day I get a little braver. I’m not sure if I’ve ever lived inside a house before, so things like couches, TVs, and vacuum cleaners might be new to me. I don’t know how I feel about cats or small children yet, but I do know I love people who move slowly, speak kindly, and give me time to understand what’s happening. I’m not a high-energy dog; I’m more of a soft, steady companion who wants to be near you, learn from you, and trust you. The rescue has taken great care of me. I’ve been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, so I’m ready to start my new life the moment the right person walks through the door. I dream about that moment a lot—someone kneeling down, offering a hand, and saying, “Hey, Kurt… let’s go home.” Maybe that someone is you. I may not know many commands yet, and I may need a little patience as I learn how to live in a home, but I promise I’ll give you something even better in return: loyalty, gratitude, and a heart that’s been waiting a long time to belong to someone. If you’d like to meet me—and maybe even the rest of my family—you can set up an appointment by emailing mike@caaronline.org. We’re all waiting here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, hoping for the day we each find a home where we can grow, learn, and finally feel safe. Are you the one who’ll give me my forever?   PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question, please ask in the e-mail.   All dogs are adopted on a first come - first served basis. Story
Hi there! My name is Jager… and I’ve been waiting just for YOU! Yes—you! The one with the kind eyes and the big heart. I’m a happy, wiggly, tail&#226&#128&#145wagging pup on the lookout for my forever family. I’m about 25–30 pounds of pure sunshine, and I’m told I might be a Shiba Inu–Jack Russell Terrier mix. I don’t know what that means exactly, but everyone keeps saying I’m adorable, so I’ll take it. Let me tell you a little about my journey so far. I started out in California with my mom, dad, and my three siblings. We were all turned in to the pound together—kind of scary, kind of confusing, but we stuck close and kept our spirits up. I had to wait there until I could hitch a ride to Central Arizona Animal Rescue, where I’m staying now. The people here are super nice, but they keep telling me that the best part of my story hasn’t happened yet… the part where you come find me. If I had to describe myself, I’d say I’m a happy-go-lucky, eager-to-please, toy-loving little guy with a heart full of love and a brain ready to learn. I get along great with the other dogs here—playtime is my favorite time—and I’m always excited to meet new humans. When I see you, my whole body wiggles like I’m made of springs. I’ve probably never lived inside a house before, so everything is new and exciting. Doors? Fascinating. Soft beds? Amazing. Refrigerators? Magical food boxes. I’m learning fast, though, and I promise I’ll try my hardest to make you proud. Okay, confession time: I’m still figuring out this whole “leash” thing. It’s a little weird having something attached to me while I walk, but I’m trying! I’m a smart boy, and I love treats, praise, and making you smile—so I know I’ll get the hang of it quickly with a patient human by my side. I’ve got a short, easy-care coat, so I won’t need fancy grooming. A quick brush, a belly rub, and I’m good to go. My Health Stuff (the boring but important part) Don’t worry—I’m all set and ready for adoption! Here’s the rundown: I am about 2 years old. I am Neutered I am Current on vaccinations I have a Microchip I am Healthy, playful, and full of life Basically, I’m a turnkey dog. Just add love.   Some of My Favorite Things are: Toys (especially the squeaky ones!) Playing with dog friends Learning new tricks Being told I’m a good boy Meeting new people Dreaming about my forever home   I’m not picky—I just want a family who will love me, teach me, and help me discover what it means to be a real part of a home. Whether you’re active and outdoorsy or cozy and cuddly, I’m ready to fit right in. I’m young, curious, and full of potential. With you, I know I can grow into the best dog I can be. Want to Meet Me? If you think we might be a perfect match (and I have a feeling we might be), please send an email to: mike@caaronline.org Tell them you want to meet Jager—the happy little guy with the big heart and the even bigger dreams. I’ll be here, tail wagging, waiting for you.  PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Story
Seraphine is a 4 year old, 31 pound Shiba Inu blend who joined us recently. She's a little shy in new situations and is looking for a family to give her a little bit of time to learn a new routine and a new environment. She knows basic commands such as sit, but she's also very food motivated and has selective hearing regarding commands if food is present. She enjoys chew toys and stuffed animals, but her favorite activity is water play! She enjoys playing with the hose, the splash pad and the kiddie pool. She is a very gentle lady when accepting a treat or reward. She is a very bright and inquisitive girl who is house and dog door trained. Her foster home has introduced her to car rides and leashes, and she's getting the hang of both! Seraphine gains confidence from other dogs, so she'll need a canine sibling, in her new home. To get started in the process for meeting Seraphine, please visit https://azfriends.org/testing/adopt.html to complete an adoption consultation form, then come by the Adoption Center to meet with an adoption counselor. No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the animal. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)! Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).
