Story
I am Applejack. I am from Missouri. From her foster; AppleJack (or "AJ" as we call her) is a sweet dog that is just starting to come out of her shell and is learning to trust people & realizing how wonderful life can be with a soft bed and some gentle pets. During the day when we are home her crate is her safe space and she goes in and out freely in between naps. She can be a bit vocal, however, when she is in her crate and left alone so shared walls may not be the best at this time. AJ currently lives with our 85 pound resident dog and is learning from him each day. She would thrive in a quiet home with another resident dog so she can continue to learn how to 'dog' and gain confidence. We are working with AJ on a lot of things that are new to her... stairs, doorways, going potty outside, and walking on a leash. She is making good progress in all of those areas, however continued dedication and patience from her new adopter is needed. Because fast movements and noises are very scary for her, she definitely needs to be on a leash with a secure harness while she is outside at all times. Additionally, time, consistency, and patience is needed to allow her to go potty outside (she gets frightened and distracted with movements, noises, or people walking by). She seems to feel more confident being close to our resident dog while outside. AJ would do well with a patient adopter who understands she has some fears because of her life before rescue. A lot of care and caution will needed to avoid having her dart out a door, or get off a leash. AJ will benefit from having a confident dog in the home. We do not have cats, however on walks she seems to have a lot of interest in squirrels so not 100% sure how she would do in a home with cats. I also recommend potential adopters research the breed. It is sometimes hard to resist the cuteness and social media hype of a Shiba Inu, however the breed does have characteristics & needs that may not be the right fit for all potential adopters. From the vet team: Hi! I'm Applejack and my rescue vet team at The Bond Between wanted to share my medical plan with those who hope to apply to adopt me! I was seen for a few concerns, one being frequent urination however no UTI was noted so I am still working on training to help with this behavior. I have some mild dental tartar, but this is something that can be managed with at home dental care until such time that my new vet deems I need further treatment or care for my teeth. The main concern was that I was diagnosed with MPL's on both knees. Good news only the left one will need surgery, although the right one will need to be monitored. Recovery from surgery will be approximately 8-12 weeks so I will need to have a home where I can be kept a little calmer during this period. Any future care would be the responsibility of my furever family! I hope to meet you soon!

Story
Hi! My name is Ren and I am from a shelter in Kansas. Ren is a lovable cattle dog mix who would love a patient home ready to help her build up her self esteem. She's a fun girl who is OBSESSED with tennis balls and could play fetch in the backyard all day. She is nervous with most new people and new situations but does warm up with time. She seems ok with cats and indifferent towards dogs. She also loves splashing in the water if you can find a nice quiet place for her to do so. Walks have been a bit of a struggle as she is very nervous on the leash and drags me back home at the first sight of children. She was fine the first couple days (maybe from the adrenaline of the transition?) but ever since has been very clear she is not enjoying walks and does not enjoy the park. She's happiest at home, in a fenced yard, with her person throwing balls. She'd be great for someone who doesn't love walks but has a yard and a good arm! Ren is also still working on potty training, although she does use puppy pads like a champ. This will also be something her forever home will need to be patient with and as she settles in from another transition and learns the ropes. (Slowly moving the pads closer to the door and then outside might be a good move for her?) Although she sounds a little high maintenance, she will win you over if you are patient enough to let her show you her insecure and loving true self. We all have our little quirks and insecurities though, am I right? Feel free to apply and connect with her foster to learn more about her and her perfect forever home - it might be with you!"

Story
Miep was pulled from a puppy mill at 5 years old. She clearly had no handling or socialization with humans or the world. The owners who adopted her from a different rescue loved her dearly and sent her to The Family Fido for a board and train to focus on handling and confidence building while on a vacation. As Miep was at the Family Fido, she opened up beautifully through the help of having other dog friends and living in the country. Through many conversations and tears, the owner decided it was best she looked for another home to ensure Miep's quality of life. Prior to coming to the farm she was adopted into a very busy neighborhood and home with NO other dogs and was pretty stressed. We are accepting applications on Miep but we need to be upfront about her as we have her best interest at heart. Miep has been with us since September 27th. There are 4 of us that have gotten to know her but she still will NOT let us handle her. She comes up for engagement, takes treats from us, will jump on us to say hi but we are not able to touch her collar or put a leash on her. We have professional trainers on site and someone who's been around hundreds of mill dogs, she makes it clear you cannot push her. Miep has been around kids, however, the kids know to leave her alone and only give her treats, etc. if she approaches them. So if she goes into a home that has kids, they must be older and understand things come to her on her terms. So she absolutely needs a fenced in yard. NO tie-outs, leash walking or invisible fences. There for, she cannot live in a condo or apartment. Please know, we usually do not set these restrictions but we know Miep best. She is and will be a dog that will need to warm up to you. The perfect home must be familiar with Shiba's (they are aloof dogs in general), and must have another dog in the home. Miep is solid with all dogs and we've never seen aggression, she's been with adults of all sizes and litters of puppies. She truly is aloof but does follow the lead of other dogs. Miep may have quite the list of requirements, but it's only fair to her that she gets placed in the right home so she doesn't need to transition again. She truly is a sweet girl and we LOVE having her around but we'd also love to see her in a home. We really hope there's someone out there If you are interested in Miep, please fill out an application on our website and a volunteer will be in touch. https://foreverfido.org/adoptable-dogs/ ****Forever Fido Puppy Rescue is located near Rochester, MN. We will not ship dogs and a Meet & Greet with the dog you are interested in is required to be done in person.****
