Story
Looking for an active, smart boy who would love a structured home with plenty of exercise?  Chevy is your guy!     Chevy has been in our program for a few years now as he needs to go to that perfect home that understands him and his needs.  You see, Chevy is a working/herding breed of dog and was on his own to fend for himself for so long on the rough streets of Houston that he's leery of people until he gets to know you.  Chevy had been living under a truck for a while (it was a Chevy) while a Scout's Honor volunteer was working to gain his trust. He kept going every day to feed him and give him some attention. The business near where he was let him come onto their property and provided him some shelter.  Unfortunately, because there was a busy street nearby, Chevy got bumped by a few cars when he was out and about and lost a few teeth as a result.  Luckily, he did not sustain any significant injuries, and just needed to eat and get a bath.  Fast-forward a few years, Chevy is in boarding and loves other dogs and loves to play !  He is a high energy dog, but is also very smart and alert. He needs A LOT of exercise and positive reinforcement, but will pick up very quickly on what you are teaching him. He would be a great dog for agility or flyball!!  As long as you keep him busy and challenged he will impress you with how well he can learn things. He just wants someone who will give him the direction, attention and structure he wants/needs. He would make a great dog for an active home with NO kiddos.  Kiddos are just too unpredictable for this guy.  He also needs a home that understands how to properly introduce him to new people and watch his cues.  Chevy can be very protective of his people and area, so proper intros are a must.  He would do best in a home that does not have a lot of new people coming in/out. True to his Kelpie/Basenji breed, Chevy likes to herd and run and play .  Check out this video of him just having a grand time running - look at those turns!      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L81s-TWX9SA&feature=youtu.be  Kelpie's/Basenji's are unique problem solvers and will find a way to do whatever he deems necessary.  True to these breed, he will also be fierlcy protective of his family (getting back to proper intros).  Chevy fits these traits to a T, and anyone who knows and loves the herding breeds would just adore little Chevy!!   Chevy is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped.   Please contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you are interested in fostering or adopting this precious guy!  You can read all about our foster and adoption process, as well as make a donation for his care, on our website at www.scoutshonor.org.    Scout's Honor Rescue is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill TX shelters. EIN # is 87-0773073 Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/scoutshonorrescue or Instagram at www.instagram.com/scoutshonorrescue We have multiple ways to donate: Venmo:  @ScoutsHonor-Rescue Paypal: www.paypal.me/scoutshonorrescue   https://scoutshonor.org/take-action/donate/ We are strictly volunteer based, no salaries are paid and 100% of donations go towards rescuing dogs January 22, 2025, 6:49 pm

Story
ALWAYS READY TO PLAY A GAME  DOB 10/19/22, weight 15# Hey there, everyone! I’m Bruni, a sweet, energetic, curious, and most of all cuddly black Basenji/ Dachshund mix gal wit white tuxedo markings. You can remember my name because Bruni was the salamander Fire Spirit in Disney’s movie Frozen 2. Spirited I am – and I could play all day! I love chasing my toys, being right in the middle of my foster family’s activities, and when I’m exhausted, falling asleep in someone’s lap.  I get along great with the resident 15-year-old dog, and we even cuddle sometimes. The resident cat and I are buddies too, although sometimes I want to play more vigorously than he’d prefer. There are no kids in my foster home, but I feel confident that I’d get along great with well-behaved children who know how to handle small dogs. I spotted my future foster pawrents as they were walking their dog, decided they were fantastic, and then followed them home. Of course I had no collar, tag, or chip, so they couldn’t find my owners. It was only several weeks later that they realized that I was pregnant, and I eventually delivered my five puppies in foster care. Even though I’ve recently been a momma, I’m still a sweet puppy at heart. You should hear my strange yelps of delight when I’m totally “lost in moment” during playtimes. Here’re a few more tidbits about me: One of the many signs that my previous owner took good care of me is that I’m fearful of toothbrushes. The only time I bark is at the mail person. When I’m alone in a new environment, I’m prone to chewing. I’m potty-trained but prefer to do my business on my walks. Now that I’ve permanently retired from being a doting momma, I’m ready to find my forever home. If you’re looking for puppy-hearted pooch who’s always ready to play and who adores being around people, I’m the gal for you! Arrange to meet me today! HOPE ID D25-0120-0005 If you are interested in Bruni and would like to fill out a Dog Adoption Application, please go to: http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php . Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt from us but it initiates contact with us and gets the process started. If you have questions prior to filling out the application, email us at Lisagilchrist16@gmail.com and a volunteer will get back to you. April 7, 2025, 11:50 pm
