Story
Teddy is a handsome 2.5 yr old, 13 lb, white and gold Shih Tzu with silver highlights.   Teddy was picked up as a stray with a severe tail injury, which was not recent.  Someone tried to scotch tape and office staple his tail back on. Horrifically, his tail was only hanging by one tendon.  After picking him up from the shelter, we immediately took him to the emergency clinic to have his tail amputated.  It was a challenging recovery for Teddy because of the trauma, pain, and probably some phantom limb pain.  Once in his foster home and starting to heal physically and emotionally, he began to trust. Teddy’s new owner must have patience, read his clues, and let him get used to his new environment on his own time.  Teddy needs a home where his people are home frequently since he prefers to be with his person and happily accompany you from room-to-room.  Teddy does not do well being crated at this time. Daily walking and time with his family will be important for his continued recovery. He is doing very well on housetraining and leash walking.  Teddy is an active and athletic Shih Tzu. He is quick and will dart for an open door, so his adoptive home needs to be prepared to manage a young dog and around outside doorways. Teddy could be an only dog or have another dog around his size (no larger than 15 lbs) in the home. The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC and VA. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact h2hadoptions@gmail.com. Story
Princess is a 1.5 yr old, 14lb Shih Tzu.  This little girl is active and athletic. She loves doing zoomies and taking her daily brisk walk. Her record is 5 miles with her foster mom. She is quick and will dart for an open door, so her adoptive home needs to be prepared to manage a young dog around entryways. She is a sweet girl who craves direction and is very smart. Princess could be an only dog and can entertain herself with plush toys in her crate or also enjoy a playmate around her size (14 lbs).  As a puppy, she was taught to play bite for fun, so her foster family is teaching her better ways for an adult dog to play. Princess happily sits next to you, enjoys being petted, and is a great companion. Her new family will need to help her calm down if she starts getting overstimulated playing or being petted so she doesn’t default to play biting. The ideal home would be with someone experienced in dealing with a dog who still has puppy tendencies and needs training to continue.  Princess will be a wonderful companion for the family who is willing to invest some time, energy and love. The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC and VA. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact h2hadoptions@gmail.com. We require an all-adult home (no children/grandchildren under 16yrs) with a securely fenced yard attached to the house with NO gaps larger than 3 inches.  An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace, temporary fencing or community shared fencing are NOT considered secure fencing. No exceptions. There is an application process and adoption fee. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hi, I'm Nellie Rose! I'm looking for the love of my life... Could it be you? First, let's get my backstory out of the way... I spent the last couple of years of my life without any grooming, and I was completely matted, with incredibly long nails when I was discovered. My nails were so long that they had curled and were growing into my pads and it really hurt! With the mats pulling at my skin, I wasn't able to do as much moving around as I like.  Now that I'm free of the mats and my nails are trimmed, I've got a new lease on life! I enjoy exploring outside, and going for short walks. (Foster Mom says I need to be a healthier weight, but my legs are short and I'm quite bodacious, so no really long walks for me, please.) I love to sniff the grass, look at everything around me, and frolic around. Sometimes I get a burst of energy, and I will speed up, causing my ears to flap up and down. I'm told this is really adorable! I like a little game of chase, if you're up for a quick little game After a nice little romp in the yard, I love coming inside to get a sip of water, and then finding a bed to curl up in. I'm not able to get up on the sofa by myself, but would love to snuggle up with you on the sofa if you're willing to pick me up. I would probably adjust to a ramp if you wanted me to be a little more independent in this aspect. I enjoy the company of other dogs, big and small, but I'm also comfortable being an only child. While my age may make some people wary, I've got so much love to give and so much joy to bring! If you think you're up for a wonderful older senior who still has spunk, please fill out an application and let's find out if we are a match!   . I am 16 years old. My mommy died. I lived with her my whole life and my person is gone. Although I’m confused about where my person has gone, I have adapted to my foster mom, dad and dogs nicely. I’m still very spunky and love going on walks. I love trying out new dog beds and I’m very chill. I am truly hoping someone will adopt me so I can live the rest of my life being loved like I was with my mommy. To apply for me please visit STFFAR.org  May 27, 2023, 11:33 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please be sure to read Lil Bit's bio prior to applying.Lil Bit found herself in a local shelter about to have a litter of pups.  Now that her pups are weaned and looking for their own forever home, so is she.  She is house trained, crate trained, and leash trained.  She adores going for daily walks, so she needs an active home that will provide this to her.  She loves to run and explore, but she isn't the best at recall- so a fenced in yard appropriate for a small breed dog (physical fencing only, please), is a must.  She would adore another playful pooch in the home, a male or submissive female would do best.  She likes kitties, but can be a bit pushy- so she needs a dog savvy cat who isn't likely to run or hide.  Since Lil Bit is on the smaller side, she'd appreciate children that are 10 and over in her forever home.   Lil Bit has been spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped, and is up to date on preventatives.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 26, 2023, 10:42 am
