Story
Meet Barkley!Hi! I’m Barkley, a beautiful Snow White Shih Tzu–Poodle mix who’s just two years old and ready to find my forever home.I’ve been with my foster mom for about six weeks and, after a little time to settle in, I’ve become her loyal little shadow. I get along with other dogs and enjoy playing with one my size, though I’d do just as well as an only dog. If I do live with another pup, they’d need to be calm, as I can be a bit pushy at times.I’m fully house trained, great on leash, and love exploring a fenced yard. Because I can be vocal when I hear outside noises, I wouldn’t be the best fit for apartment or condo living. I enjoy toys, gentle tug-of-war, and sometimes even chasing my tail when I’m feeling playful.I’m healthy overall, with only a very mild heart murmur that doesn’t affect my daily life. One of my eyes looks a little “wonky,” but it’s healthy and I see just fine. I sleep quietly in my crate at night and when my foster mom is out—though I do get excited and bark when she comes home!I haven’t met young children yet, but I warm up nicely to new people. I’d be perfectly happy as a spoiled little prince, bringing lots of love, cuddles, and joy to my forever family.Located in BellevilleBarclay – Important Home RequirementsBest Home Type: Detached home preferred (can be vocal with outside noises; not ideal for apartments/condos)Suitable for suburban, rural, farm, or city settingsFamily & Lifestyle:Best with a mellow-to-moderately active familySeniors welcomeNot yet tested with young children; warms up with time and is friendly once comfortableOther Pets: Enjoys playing with other dogs, especially another young, gentle, well-balanced dogCan be a bit pushy with dogs and has shown mild resource guarding with themNot cat testedNo prey drive observed; likely fine around small animalsTraining & Manners:Fully house trainedCrate trained; can be left alone several hours at a timeKnows sit and comeExcellent on leash; no leash aggressionNo separation anxiety, though may bark briefly before settlingExercise Needs:A couple of good daily walks plus yard playtimePersonality & Quirks:Sweet, affectionate, and loves to be with his peopleTakes a little time to warm up and is a vocal communicator (growler) when uncomfortable—has never bittenVery aware of neighborhood activity and will bark at noisesOccasionally chases (and catches!) his tailFood & Health:Currently on raw food, no known allergiesNo special dietary requirementsBest Quality:A loving companion who thrives on closeness and cuddles
