Hello, I'm Evy (pronounced Evie)! I am a 4 year old Shih Tzu/Jack Russell Terrier Mix. I am current on my vaccines, heartworm tested, spayed, and microchipped. 3 words that describe me: I am Affectionate, Energetic, and Cuddly Things staff and volunteers have to say about me: I am a very happy go lucky girl. I dont like being picked up by people I dont know, but I sure do love to cuddle anyone after I get to know them a bit. I am very sweet and gentle and love to be loved. Activity level/Energy Level: (1-10): 6/10 Housetraining Status: I am getting better every day, with a bit of patience and a good routine, I should be trained in my new home in no time. I should do well in a home: I should do well in a home with other dogs given proper introductions. I should do good with kids 8+ due to my aversion to being picked up some times. My friends at the shelter are unsure how I would do with cats in the home. My favorite activities are: Cuddling up with my favorite people and rubbing all against them. Meet Benji    Benji is a 4-year-old Shih Tzu mix weighing about 14 pounds who is looking for a calm, patient, and dog-savvy home where he can truly feel safe.   Benji appears to have had a rough start in life and is still learning that the world — and people — can be kind. He tends to feel more comfortable around men and can be sensitive to feet or sudden movements near him. Because of this, Benji will need an experienced owner who understands canine body language and is committed to continuing his training and confidence-building work.   Benji is currently recovering from a significant skin infection, and as he heals, we are still learning how much of his reactivity may have been related to discomfort or pain versus past experiences. What we do know is that with clear structure, gentle leadership, and consistency, Benji does best when he is not allowed to “run the show” and when expectations are calm and predictable.   Benji is not a beginner dog, but for the right person, he has the potential to be a loyal, rewarding companion.
