Story
💫 ZIP 💫 Zip is a 6-8 year old, 12 pound female spayed Chihuahua-Papillon Mix (best guess) that was found as a stray by a kind Samaritan after being abandoned by her previous owner, who had tried to surrender her to a private shelter but didn’t make an appointment (as required). Unfortunately, rather than follow through or go to the public county shelter, the owner left her behind. Thankfully, the Good Samaritans husband was able to scoop her up with a blanket & they took her to the vet to have her checked out. The vet discovered that Zip had some benign masses on her paw pads and a luxating patella. Otherwise, she was in good health — just scared and unsure of the world around her. She’s spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines, and on heartworm prevention. Zip will need a patient home that understands scared & insecure dogs. One that will help her shine & be a braver version of herself. She is already shining in the care of her foster parents – she ADORES her Foster Dad (it took her about 5-6 days to get to this but she had also been thru a mess of a storm those first few days with being dumped, shots & learning a new place) & is starting to warm up to Foster Mom (despite mom being the one who feeds her, takes her out, and first spotted her — silly girl!). Once she connects with you, she is a very affectionate girl & when you're sitting on the couch, she'll want to be right next to you. Zip loves being outdoors so a secured, fenced in yard would be her most ideal home. She also loves car rides & is also food motivated with a good, hearty appetite. She is currently recovering from having the masses removed from her paw (benign) as well as the MPL surgery so she will need to stay secured on a leash for walks around the house & in the yard during this recovery time as well as no jumping up or off of couches or beds. Dr’s orders. Due to her skittish behavior when first meeting new people, an adult home only is recommended (although I am optimistically hopeful that with some socialization & proper introductions, she will be ok with older, dog savvy kids coming over for visits as she just needs her space). Zip has not had one accident & absolute loves her Foster Fursibling (dog). We’re unsure about cats. Interested in learning more about Zip & would like to be her person? Fill out an application & let’s get the ball rolling. https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/PPFL-A-4044 📍 Due to Zip’s surgery & recovery appointments, our adoption radius has been reduced to 150 miles from Jacksonville, FL (please be sure you are able to make this commute or have a strong relationship with your vet to take over her post-op care). All other pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations and heartworm prevention.

Story
Lia is a fawn/white Chihuahua mix. She's around 9 years old and 12 lbs. She's spayed, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines and monthly preventatives. Read her full profile and submit an adoption application on our website: https://www.fawnssmalldogrescue.org/adoptable-dogs/lia Lia's profile highlights: - She's an affectionate and independent lady - Good with dogs big/small, requires 1+ dogs - Kid friendly, dog-savvy kids 8+ years and older. - Doing great with house and potty training - Yard optional, does well on a leash When Lia arrived she was nervous and under-socialized, especially with other dogs. She initially showed some anxiety, likely transition related. At first, she preferred to supervise her new humans closely. Now that she's settled in, she loves to be around her humans but prefers independent activities; like playing with her foster siblings. Lia is now a toy and playtime enthusiast - she's even started to play fetch! She adores other dogs of all sizes and she's particularly bonded with her Labrador foster sibling. She also enjoys her foster Chihuahua sister. Her new home must have one or more other dogs to continue her socializing success. Lia picks a primary person and has resource guarding tendencies when it comes to other dogs. She's done well receiving corrections and she's doing much better. She's thriving thanks to the love and support of her family and pack. Lia's ideal home must include one or more playful dogs to reduce her anxiety and continue her socializing success. She prefers people who are home often who can take her on walks or take her sunbathing in the park or a yard. She can live with respectful, dog-savvy kids 8+ years or older. Lia does well on a leash and doesn't require a fenced yard. Upon arrival, we were told that Lia doesn't like cats.

Story
Elsa is a 2 year old, 7 lb, white Shih Tzu-terrier mix. She is spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date on her vaccines and monthly preventatives. Check out Elsa's full profile before submitting an application, this snow queen has specific requirements: https://www.fawnssmalldogrescue.org/adoptable-dogs/elsa Elsa is the last dog from the January 2025 hoarding situation. As the least socialized, Elsa's anxiety and timid nature made it hard for her to trust that humans wanted to care for her. After a lot of love, patience, and hard work from our fosters - Elsa is now medicated and thriving! She no longer hides behind her foster siblings and started actively play and engage with them. It is truly a joy to see! Like many dogs with her background, Elsa prefers to be a pack dog. She's been doing well with house and potty training. She will follow the other dogs and go potty outside in the yard. Elsa is continuing to come out of her shell. Her ideal home has patient and loving adopters with a pack of two or more similarly sized dogs, some of whom around her age. She requires a home with at least two dogs who like play. Elsa must have a securely fenced yard, she needs a tall fence that she can't slip out of or climb over. She needs an adult only home. She does fine with cats, she mostly ignored her prior foster kitty sibling.
