Story
Applications at leiashope.org Oakley 5-Year-Old Female Yorkshire Terrier Location: Decatur, IL Oakley is a sweet little Yorkie who becomes more confident with each passing day. When the weather is nice, she enjoys spending time outside running the fence line with her foster fur siblings, keeping watch for strangers or the occasional rabbit. With the cold and snow, she’s much happier soaking up the warmth indoors, curled up in a cozy dog bed or snuggled close to her foster mom. Inside the home, Oakley has truly found her stride. She enjoys comfy dog beds, loves sleeping in bed with her foster mom, and is a world-class cuddler. She often chooses to lay close while watching TV, happily soaking up attention. Once hesitant, Oakley is now an attention hog and will absolutely navigate obstacles to make her way into a lap. Oakley is less fearful of strangers and does well with kids. She enjoys the company of other dogs and follows their lead, both for playtime and confidence. She has not been around cats. She’s a smart little girl who wants to please and continues to blossom in a loving home environment. One of her favorite daily routines is sharing a couple bites of banana with her foster mom each morning — a sweet tradition that perfectly sums up her gentle, affectionate personality. Oakley is a loving, loyal companion who is ready to bring warmth, cuddles, and a whole lot of love to her forever home. Oakley’s requirements: * A secure physical fenced yard * Another friendly canine companion in the home Oakley is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines, recently received a dental, and is on monthly heartworm prevention. Adoption fee: $400 Adoption information: Applications are processed by our volunteer team and typically take 7–10 business days. An approved application is required before scheduling a meet and greet. Meet and greets must be in person with all family members and resident dogs present. No transport or shipping is available — adopters must travel to the dog’s location in Decatur, IL. Dogs are a lifetime commitment and must be returned to Leia’s Hope if an adopter can no longer care for them. Applications available at leiashope.org.

Story
Applications at leiashope.org Apple Crisp is located in Decatur, IL. She is believed to be a Teddybear (Shih Tzu/Bichon) and was born in our care after her mom arrived pregnant. Apple Crisp has quickly earned her reputation as the diva of the litter. She is tiny, adorable, and absolutely convinced she deserves her own personal staff. If something feels even slightly beneath her, she will let you know—sometimes loudly. Noise cancelling headphones might be a wise investment. Despite her flair for dramatics, Apple Crisp is incredibly sweet and loves her people. She would do best in a home that understands her personality and gently encourages her to figure things out instead of rescuing her from every situation. When given space and support, her confidence grows, and she shines. She enjoys cuddling, playing with her siblings, and supervising from a comfy lap when possible. She is currently going through the Puppy Culture program, which focuses on confidence building, problem solving, early socialization, and positive communication. Apple Crisp enjoys her one-on-one learning time and will go home with the next-stage Puppy Culture online course (a $100 value) to help her new family continue her training and development. Apple Crisp was weaned onto a balanced raw diet to support her gut biome and overall health. She will go home with a few days of food for transition. While she does not have to stay on raw, it is preferred for optimal health. Like all Teddybears, she will require frequent brushing and routine grooming every six weeks to keep her coat healthy and mat free. She has been examined by our veterinarian and is in perfect puppy health. Apple Crisp will be ready for her forever home once she is fully weaned and has received her second puppy vaccine. Her adoption fee is $650. She will go home with two rounds of vaccines and a microchip. Subsequent boosters will be the adopter’s responsibility. She will not be spayed until at least 6 months of age; we cover a portion of the spay cost if completed between 6–9 months. A spay contract is required and enforced. Applications are available at leiashope.org. We are a volunteer-run organization and applications take 7–10 business days to process. We do not schedule meet and greets without an approved application. Adopters must travel to Decatur, IL for the meet and greet and to complete the adoption, and all family members (including dogs) must be present. Puppies are a 15+ year commitment, and adopters should be fully prepared to love Apple Crisp for her lifetime. We do not allow rehoming, and we do not offer transport or allow our dogs to fly cargo.

Story
Applesauce – Teddybear/Shih Tzu-Bichon mix Location: Decatur, IL Adoption fee: $650 Applesauce is the shyest and most thoughtful pup of the litter. He was once one of the smallest puppies, but with good nutrition and care he has grown into one of the biggest. Despite his size, he remains a gentle, cautious soul who approaches new people, places, and experiences slowly. He watches first, thinks it over, and then decides if he’s ready. Applesauce is a sweet, sensitive puppy who will absolutely thrive with continued structure, confidence-building, and positive social exposure. He will go home with the next-stage Puppy Culture course because he truly needs it. His adoptive family must be ready and committed to continuing his Puppy Culture training exactly as outlined. This program shapes who he becomes as an adult, and without it he could grow into an insecure dog. With it, he will become steady, trusting, and sure of himself. His success depends on a home 100 percent invested in doing the daily exercises, games, and protocols. He would do best with older children (12+) who understand how to move slowly and respectfully with a shy puppy. A confident but not overbearing dog in the home would also be helpful, as he learns a great deal by observing other dogs. Vetting and care: • Current on age-appropriate vaccines • Microchipped • Seen by our veterinarian and cleared for adoption • On monthly flea and heartworm prevention • Will go home with a neuter contract; Leia’s Hope covers a portion of the cost when he is neutered between 6–9 months • Requires regular grooming as his coat grows Other information: • Adoption fee: $650 • Applications take 7–10 business days to process • Approved application required before a meet and greet • All family members and resident dogs must attend the meet and greet • Adopters must travel to Decatur, Illinois for adoption; no transport or cargo flights are provided • Puppies are a 12–15 year commitment and must be returned to Leia’s Hope if the adopter is ever unable to care for them Applesauce is a sensitive, loving boy who just needs the right home to bring out his confidence. For the family willing to commit to his Puppy Culture journey, he will grow into a wonderful, devoted companion. Applications at leiashope.org.
