Story
Layla is an 11 year old Silky Terrier/Yorkie. Layla was originally surrendered in February 2025 because the only owner she had ever known had a stroke and was not physically able to care for her anymore. Layla was then adopted on her 10th birthday, 3/1/25. She was returned to us last weekend because she was having accidents in the house, reportedly due to anxiety. Once she arrived, her foster noticed she was drinking a significant amount of water and subsequently urinating a lot. Layla's blood work came back today and showed that she is in early kidney failure. She will start kidney care food and we will recheck her kidney values in 6-8 weeks. Ideally, her values will decrease or remain stable, at which point she will just remain on the kidney care diet. If her values have increased, she will begin weekly fluids to flush her system. If her values have increased, the vet said she has on average 6-12 months. Unfortunately, we won't know the prognosis until the next blood work is done. Considering Layla has already lost two owners, we would love to find someone willing to commit to her and take on her medical care for however long she has left. Layla's adoption fee is waived due to the uncertainty of her prognosis. Layla isn't a fan of other animals, but would likely be fine with other pets in the home if they didn't bother her. She LOVES people and attention. Any children in the home must be at least 12 years old. Layla does not do well in a crate. Please email dancersbridgedogrescue@gmail.com if you are interested in giving Layla the forever home she deserves. 🥰

Story
Meet Minnie — 6.5 Pounds of Sass, Spark, Speed, and Snuggles 🌶️💕 Fostered in Virginia Beach, VA Minnie is a tiny little 6.5-pound Yorkie/Silky mix with a HUGE personality packed into a petite frame. She is hilarious, affectionate, nosy, bossy, energetic, and completely devoted to her people. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be involved in everything you do — cooking, laundry, bathroom breaks, naps… all of it. 😅 She is not a “sit quietly in the corner” kind of dog. Minnie is busy. She’s opinionated. She’s clever. She’s a tiny little napoleon full of love and confidence. Despite all that spice, Minnie is actually an incredibly loving and tender little dog. She bonds deeply with her people and thrives on affection and closeness. Because of that, Minnie has very specific placement needs. We have had several failed placement attempts simply because people underestimated how much management, consistency, structure, and supervision a tiny brilliant dog like Minnie truly requires. At this point, we are no longer looking for “maybe.” We are waiting for the right person to read this and say: “Oh my goodness… I already have tiny dog beds everywhere, I absolutely would buy her outfits, and adding another fluffy pink bed to my house sounds completely reasonable.” 💅🐾✨ Her foster dad even suggested putting a little bed in the bathroom because Minnie truly believes no one should ever have to pee alone. 😂 ⚠️ Minnie MUST have: ✅ Homeowners only — absolutely no renters ✅ A stable long-term living situation with consistency and routine ✅ A securely fenced yard with REAL grass space to run and play ✅ NO concrete-only backyards or “concrete jungle” patios ✅ NO pools ✅ NO waterfront homes ✅ NO large ponds or water features over approximately 500 gallons ✅ NO bird-of-prey risk areas ✅ NO birds or pet birds of any kind — not even small birds like canaries ✅ NO cats ✅ NO doggie doors ✅ NO apartments or leash-only potty situations ✅ A permanently installed second barrier between her and the front door (baby gate, foyer, mudroom, double-door exit, etc.) ✅ Someone home most of the time — retired, stay-at-home, or work-from-home preferred ✅ A younger playful dog companion under 12 lbs who enjoys rough-and-tumble play ✅ No large dogs whatsoever ✅ Children 10+ only ✅ Pets allowed on furniture and bed ✅ A family willing to safely manage her environment for life ✅ Adoption location within 2 hours of Virginia Beach, VA ✅ A neat, organized home with clean counters and surfaces Minnie does NOT want to be an only dog. She thrives with another tiny playful dog her size that enjoys wrestling, zoomies, and active play. Another confident Yorkie-type companion would be ideal. The size limit is critical because larger dogs — even sweet ones — can accidentally injure her during play. She is also absolutely NOT safe around birds or cats. Minnie has a very strong prey drive despite her tiny size. We will not place her in a home with pet birds of any kind because eventually there will be an accident and heartbreak for everyone involved. Minnie actually genuinely likes people and has met countless strangers successfully. She is affectionate, social, and loving with adults and older children alike. The age requirement is NOT because she dislikes children — it’s because Minnie is tiny, wiggly, and constantly in motion. A younger child accidentally dropping her or carrying her improperly could easily result in a serious leg injury. She also has one hilariously specific quirk: if someone is carrying a large box or object high enough that she cannot see their face… the tiny velociraptor emerges until the object goes away. 😂 Once she can clearly see the person again, she settles right back down. It’s less “aggression” and more “tiny security officer deeply suspicious of floating cardboard.” Minnie is incredibly fast and will dart doors if given the opportunity. Her adopter must understand management and prevention. She cannot safely go to a home where people are constantly coming and going without precautions in place. And when we say she is resourceful… we mean RESOURCEFUL. 😅 Minnie can climb, launch herself, move objects, and problem solve like a furry little velociraptor. Short baby gates are not enough for her. If she can move a chair, basket, ottoman, or object close enough to assist herself over a barrier, she absolutely will. She has also made it very clear that she does NOT tolerate crating. This is not mild whining. Minnie screams and cries loudly enough to be heard multiple houses away and becomes extremely distressed. Crating is simply not an appropriate management tool for her. Because of this, Minnie needs a family that naturally keeps a tidy, organized home — the kind of people whose counters stay clean and who don’t leave food, medications, or random objects sitting out on tables or bathroom counters. Think “beautifully organized but delightfully dog-friendly” — dog beds, blankets, toy baskets everywhere are perfectly fine. 💕 She wants closeness and companionship and prefers sleeping with her people or on a raised bed nearby. This girl thrives when she feels included and connected. 🍽️ Minnie is also maintained on very high-end nutrition to keep her healthy, fit, and feeling her best. Her little waistline stays trim thanks to premium quality food and careful management — this girl absolutely lives the boutique dog lifestyle. 💡 Important Placement Note: Minnie is healthy and young and could live another 15+ years. She is not suitable as a “grandma companion dog” or for someone with declining health. She needs an active, committed forever home capable of safely managing her needs long-term. If you’re looking for a quiet lap dog who sleeps all day, Minnie is not your girl. But if you want a tiny best friend with endless personality, comedy, affection, outfits, toy baskets, fluffy beds, loyalty, and spice… Minnie may be absolutely perfect. ❤️ Apply to adopt Minnie at: 👉 www.coastalsheltierescue.org
