Story
Meet Pepper, a super cute 8 year old spayed female shih tzu mix! Pepper is overweight currently at about 23 lbs, she is on a diet and her foster mom is working hard to help her drop a few lbs to get to a healthier weight. Pepper has recently had a dental and had most of her teeth pulled. She also eats rx urinary food due to previous bladder stones.
Pepper came to us as a local owner surrender. She has been loved her whole life, however her family made the difficult decision to rehome her after she became very stressed out by the toddler and young baby in her home. She is a sweet girl but definitely tends to be anxious, and she prefers the company of adults or respectful older children 12+ (we can’t say we blame her!).
Pepper is currently being fostered in CT and is doing well! Her foster family reports that she is a pretty calm and lower energy girl who would do best in a quiet, calm home. She is independent and will come up for attention when she wants it and will just chill on the floor or couch when she feels like it. It took her a few days to really start seeking out more attention and choosing to crawl into laps or roll over for belly rubs. She really is a sweetheart once she has had a little time to decompress and warm up to new people!
Pepper has gotten along well with the other dogs in her foster home (all smaller dogs, we are unsure how she would do with larger dogs), and her tail is always wagging! She has not been cat tested, but we feel she would likely be fine with cats.
Pepper is medically up to date, housebroken, and crate trained. Apply to meet this special girl today!
**Pepper will not be available until our 1/11/26 adoption event at Petco in Dayville, CT. We are accepting applications on her now! We will prioritize applicants who are able to attend the 1/11 event. If Pepper is not adopted at the event, we will move on to other applicants.**

Adoption fees vary based on the dog and are not negotiable. As a small rescue that does not receive government funding or grants, we rely on adoption fees to stay afloat. Adoption fees help cover the following: vaccinations, wellness exams, heartworm/4DX testing, parasite prevention, spay/neuter (age-appropriate), microchipping, transport expenses, and other rescue-related overhead/administrative costs. Paws Rescue League, Inc is an all-inclusive rescue that does NOT only rescue puppies and young, healthy dogs. We make a point to also rescue seniors, dogs with special needs, moms, and other “less desirable” dogs, knowing that we will likely incur higher veterinary expenses and that these dogs may take longer to get adopted. As such, an individual adoption fee is not only reimbursing PRL for expenses directly related to that dog, but it is also helping us to continue our mission of taking in dogs that would otherwise be too much of a financial burden to save. We believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance. Thank you for your support and understanding!
