We would love to add Beau to our trip for the right family 😊 Beau 🩵 Beau was born August 28, 2025, and is a Maltese/Yorkie mix weighing 7.9 pounds full grown. He is at a wonderful, healthy weight for his little frame, and underneath that ridiculously cute face is one of the sweetest little hearts. Beau is shy when meeting someone he doesn’t know. That is simply part of who he is, and I actually think there is something incredibly special about watching the moment he realizes he is safe with you. He doesn’t immediately walk into a room assuming everyone is his best friend. He observes, takes things in, and looks for reassurance from the person he trusts. Once he realizes that your hands are kind and your heart is safe, that little wall starts coming down surprisingly quickly. And then you get to meet the real Beau. 🩵 He is funny, affectionate, incredibly loyal, and has so much personality packed into his tiny 7.9-pound body. He loves playing with other dogs and does wonderfully with dogs both big and small. He is also great with cats. But as much as Beau enjoys his animal friends, at his core he is absolutely a people’s dog. When Beau chooses his person, he loves them deeply. He wants to be near you. He wants to be included in whatever you’re doing. Your day doesn’t have to be exciting or elaborate for him to be happy. If you’re moving around the house, he’s content being part of it. If you’re settling down, he’s happy settling down with you. He has that wonderful ability to simply fit himself into the rhythm of the person he loves. He has been wonderful with our older children, and he recently met our newest little grandson. Beau was perfectly happy sitting alongside me with the baby, simply enjoying being included. Those quiet little moments tell you so much about his temperament. He’s also an incredibly quiet dog. Beau is not a barker. He is accustomed to the normal sounds and activity of everyday life, so it generally takes something unfamiliar to catch his attention. Occasionally he will alert us when something is new or different, but he isn’t a dog who feels the need to carry on about it. Once he knows everything is okay, he’s perfectly content letting his people handle the investigation while he goes back to being Beau. 😂 When I first met him, Beau ran straight to his mom. She was his safe place. He didn’t know me, and he had absolutely no reason yet to believe that I could become one too. So I sat with him. I didn’t expect him to immediately trust me or understand what was happening. I just showed him that while I wasn’t the mom he had grown up knowing and loving, I would love him and take care of him just as fiercely while he was with me. I believe he knows that now. Somewhere along the way, I became his person here🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵 And that is probably why I understand so clearly what Beau is going to give the person who is willing to give him that same opportunity. His shyness may prevent someone from seeing everything extraordinary about him within the first five minutes of meeting him. But give him a little time to build a relationship with you, and there is an entirely different little dog waiting underneath. His previous family loved him, but circumstances in their lives changed. Beau’s dad suffered an injury that required back surgery, and his recovery was expected to be extensive. With everything that came along with that, he and his wife realized they could no longer give Beau the life, activity, and attention they wanted him to have. They made the difficult decision to ask us to take him in so he could have the opportunity for the happiness and companionship he deserves. Because of those circumstances, and the very hot weather we’ve had here, leash walking is still fairly new to Beau. His dad wasn’t physically able to take him out before he came to us, and we’ve been introducing leash time as weather permits. This is simply an area his new family will need to continue building on with him. He is young, eager to be with his person, and has every reason to continue doing beautifully as he gains experience. Inside the home, Beau already has wonderful habits. He is housetrained and thrives with consistency. Here, he is taken outside approximately every 2–3 hours and will go potty when asked. Keeping him on a predictable routine has worked beautifully for him. He is also crate trained. At bedtime, open his crate door and Beau will happily run right in. There’s no struggle or convincing needed; he understands his bedtime routine and settles nicely. If his forever family would rather have him sleep in a little bed beside theirs, or eventually curled up in their bed, I have a feeling Beau would adapt to that arrangement without too much objection. 😂 He travels wonderfully, too. Long or short road trips don’t bother him, which is such a wonderful quality for a family hoping for a little companion who can truly be part of their life. Even grooming is something Beau handles beautifully. He loves our groomer and enjoys a nice cool bath, especially when the deal includes plenty of lap time while he’s being brushed afterward. 🩵 His adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of his adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/_beau-1 It covers his neuter, microchip, current vaccines, thorough veterinary care and his light dental scaling and polish. Although Beau is still young, he did have some mild buildup that warranted a light cleaning. Dental needs aren’t determined by age alone. Genetics, breed and diet can all play a role, particularly in small breeds. His teeth were otherwise in great health and no extractions were needed. His dental was simply an opportunity to give him a beautifully clean, healthy start going into his forever home. There are dogs who show you everything they have to offer the instant you meet them. Beau isn’t that dog. He’s the little boy who may initially stand back and wonder whether he can trust you. He’s going to look toward the person he already knows is safe before deciding whether you might be safe too. But I have had the privilege of being on the other side of that uncertainty. I know the Beau who comes after it. I know the funny little boy with the huge personality. The affectionate companion. The dog who loves his people deeply, gets along beautifully with the animals around him, happily goes wherever life takes him, and really doesn’t ask for much beyond being included and loved. And now that I have become his person, I will have the honor of eventually bringing him to the person who gets to be his forever person. Someone who won’t measure their connection with him by the first few minutes they spend together, but who will give him the opportunity to realize once again: I’m safe here. I’m loved here. This is my person now. Give Beau that chance, and I truly don’t believe you’ll ever regret opening your home and your heart to him. 🩵

We would love to add Biscuit to our trip for the right family 😊 There is something incredibly special about earning the trust of a shy dog. It isn’t given freely or rushed, it is built one gentle moment at a time. And once you’ve earned it, you’ve gained a friend whose love runs deeper than words could ever describe. That is Biscuit. Beneath his cautious first impression is one of the sweetest, happiest little souls you could ever hope to meet, simply waiting for someone to show him that the world is a safe and wonderful place. Biscuit is a handsome Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier mix born on January 8, 2026. He currently weighs right around 10 pounds and is expected to mature between 12 and 14 pounds, making him the perfect little companion for just about any lifestyle. When you first meet Biscuit, he may be a little reserved. New people and unfamiliar situations can make him uncertain, and he’ll look to you for reassurance while he figures things out. What he needs isn’t someone to change who he is, but someone who understands that confidence grows through patience, consistency, and love. Every day we’ve watched him become just a little braver than the day before, and it has been one of the greatest joys to witness. We know his future family will experience that same beautiful transformation as he settles into a home where he feels safe. Once Biscuit knows he belongs, his personality begins to shine. His little tail is constantly wagging whenever he’s happy or excited to be part of your day, and seeing that tiny tail going is enough to make anyone smile. He has such a gentle, joyful spirit and truly enjoys simply being included in whatever you’re doing. While he loves affection and spending time with his people, he also has a wonderfully mellow side. If you’re working around the house, reading a book, or relaxing after a long day, he’ll happily curl up nearby, content just knowing he’s close to the people he loves. He also has a playful side that comes alive outdoors. Watching Biscuit run through the yard with another kind, playful dog is enough to remind you what pure happiness looks like. He enjoys having canine friends, but he certainly doesn’t require another dog in his forever home. As long as he has a person who will spend time with him, encourage him, and include him in daily life, he will be perfectly content. His greatest desire isn’t another dog, it’s a family who will become his safe place. Biscuit came into our care because a young woman who loved him deeply was preparing to leave for college. Knowing she could no longer give him the consistency and commitment he deserved, and with her parents’ work schedules making it impossible for them to take over his care, she made the incredibly selfless decision to ask us to find him a family who could give him everything she knew he deserved. It was a decision made entirely out of love, and we promised her we would find the home where Biscuit could truly flourish. He has wonderful manners in the home and thrives when he has a predictable routine. Biscuit is house trained and does an excellent job going outside every couple of hours. Like many dogs, he finds comfort in consistency, and maintaining a regular schedule will help him continue to succeed. He is crate trained and currently sleeps peacefully in his crate each night, although we have no doubt he would happily transition to sleeping in a dog bed beside yours or even snuggled up in bed if that’s what his future family prefers. He is also a perfect gentleman during grooming appointments and genuinely enjoys being pampered. Grooming days have become little spa days for him, and he handles them beautifully. One of our favorite things about Biscuit is his adorable classic Shih Tzu underbite. It peeks through in many of his photos and gives him so much personality. It’s one of those charming breed characteristics that Shih Tzu lovers know and adore, and in Biscuit’s case, it somehow makes him even more endearing. The one area we haven’t had the opportunity to work extensively on is leash training. Because we’ve focused on building his confidence first, formal leash work is still ahead of him. Thankfully, Biscuit is an incredibly smart little boy, eager to learn, and we have every confidence that with patient guidance and positive encouragement, he’ll quickly master walking on a leash just as he has everything else. Biscuit isn’t a barker, which many families appreciate. He enjoys a peaceful home and generally stays quiet, though he’ll let you know if he hears something truly unfamiliar. As he has settled into rescue life, even those alerts have become less frequent because he’s learned that not every new sound is something to worry about. Because Biscuit is still growing, our veterinarian has recommended waiting until he reaches approximately 10 to 12 months of age before being neutered, allowing him the opportunity to fully mature. For that reason, he will be adopted on a neuter contract. He is current on all of his one-year vaccinations, has been microchipped, and has been thoroughly examined by our veterinarian. As part of his routine care, we submitted a fecal sample to the laboratory, and based on those results, he completed two rounds of deworming to ensure he is healthy and ready for his forever home. He will also go home with an official health certificate from our veterinarian. Biscuit is looking for someone who understands that some of the most rewarding relationships take a little time to blossom. The family who chooses him won’t simply be adopting a dog, they’ll have the privilege of watching a timid little boy slowly discover just how wonderful life can be. They’ll witness the first moments of newfound confidence, the excited tail wags, the happy zoomies across the yard, and the quiet evenings spent beside the people he trusts with his whole heart. We would love to add Daisy to our trip for the right family 😊 🎄 Meet Daisy — Our Little Christmas Joy 🎄 There are some dogs whose happiness you can describe, and then there are dogs you simply have to meet to understand. Daisy is the second kind. 😂🩷 Born on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, we can’t help but think that special birthday explains a little something about her. Daisy seems to genuinely believe she was placed on this earth for one purpose: to love absolutely everyone she meets and enjoy every single second of her life while doing it. And she takes that job VERY seriously. 😂 Daisy is an almost 8-month-old purebred Shih Tzu weighing just over 9 lbs, and she is quite literally JOY in the size of a Shih Tzu. She loves women. She loves men. She loves children. She loves dogs. She loves cats. She loves going places. She loves being home. She loves attention. She loves life. Basically, if you’re breathing, Daisy has probably already decided you’re wonderful. 😂🩷 Her happiness is contagious. She walks into a room with this naturally cheerful little presence that makes it nearly impossible not to smile at her. There isn’t a complicated side to Daisy that you’re going to spend months trying to figure out. She lives life without a care in the world and seems completely convinced that every new person, animal, place, and experience has arrived solely for her enjoyment. She is affectionate without being anxious, social without being overwhelming, playful while still being perfectly happy to settle down with her people, and she has shown us no separation anxiety while in our care. She simply adjusts to whatever the day brings and continues being Daisy. And then there is the snorting. 😂 If you know and love Shih Tzus, you already know exactly what we’re talking about. That adorable little smooshed face occasionally comes with the classic Shih Tzu snorts and noises, and somehow they fit her personality perfectly. She already has enough character for three dogs, so naturally she needed her own soundtrack too. 😂 Daisy came to us because her previous owner found herself in a financial situation where she simply couldn’t continue providing Daisy with the care she deserved. Even keeping up with necessities such as regular grooming had become difficult. Daisy was loved, and ultimately that love is what led her owner to make the difficult decision to ask us for help. She knew her circumstances weren’t allowing Daisy to feel and live her best, and she wanted more for her than what she was presently able to provide. So she entrusted Daisy to us and asked us to find the family who could give this beautiful girl the life she deserves. And here we are. 🩷 For such a young girl, Daisy already has a wonderful foundation. She is house trained with a consistent routine and goes outside when asked every couple of hours throughout the day. She is crate trained and has done wonderfully with it, although we’re fairly certain she wouldn’t object if her future family decided that sleeping somewhere closer to them sounded better. 😂 She also walks wonderfully on leash, travels beautifully in the car, and is fantastic for the groomer, which is especially important for a Shih Tzu whose beautiful coat will require lifelong maintenance. Daisy has been wonderful with dogs of all sizes, cats, children, men, and women. There truly hasn’t been a category of living creature she has decided not to be friends with yet. 😂 Medically, Daisy has been thoroughly evaluated by our veterinarian. She is current on her vaccines, microchipped, and will go home with her medical records and a health certificate from our veterinarian. We also submitted a fecal sample to the laboratory, and she will be dewormed according to those results if treatment is indicated. Daisy is not yet spayed and will be adopted on a spay contract. Because she is still growing and maturing, our veterinarian would like her to reach approximately 12 months of age before being spayed so her body, joints, and growth plates are given additional time to fully mature. During her examination, our veterinarian also noted mild movement in Daisy’s knees/patellas. This is something that can be seen in small breeds such as Shih Tzus, and at this time our veterinarian is not concerned or recommending intervention. It is simply something we believe her future family should know about and continue monitoring with their veterinarian throughout her life. It is also another reason we feel allowing Daisy’s body to finish maturing before spaying is especially important. Our hope is that giving her joints and supporting structures every opportunity to mature naturally will help keep those knees from ever becoming problematic. But while all of those things tell you what has been done for Daisy, they don’t really tell you who Daisy is. Daisy is happiness. She is the little snorting Shih Tzu who wakes up expecting today to be wonderful simply because she gets another day to love somebody. She doesn’t seem interested in worrying about yesterday or wondering what tomorrow might bring. She’s too busy enjoying right now. 😂🩷 We genuinely believe the family who adopts Daisy isn’t simply getting a wonderful little dog. They’re bringing home the kind of personality that changes the energy of a house. The kind that makes you laugh when you weren’t planning to. The kind that greets people as though they’ve been friends forever. The kind that makes ordinary days a little happier just by being there. She was born on Christmas Day, and maybe we’re a little sentimental, but there really couldn’t have been a more fitting birthday for her. Because Daisy truly does feel like one very happy little gift. 🎄🩷🐾 And whoever gets to call her theirs will never go wrong with this girl.
