Bobtail Bernard Puppies – Five Available for Adoption
Two females and three males available
Looking for a loving, well-socialized puppy with a wonderful foundation for family life? We have five Bobtail Bernard puppies looking for their forever homes! These puppies were bred with service dog work in mind, particularly mobility assistance and wheelchair pulling. They have been raised in our program with purpose, care, and plenty of hands-on attention from the very beginning.
Sometimes, a puppy has the temperament and potential for service work but isn't the right fit for the program because of their coat. These puppies have shedding coats, so they are being released from our service dog program to find loving family homes instead. They are still wonderful puppies with so much potential, and now they have the opportunity to become someone's beloved companion.
A Great Start in Life
We believe socialization begins at birth, not when a puppy is old enough to leave home. From their earliest days, our puppies are introduced to different sights, sounds, smells, and textures to help them become comfortable with the world around them. As they grow, we continue providing age-appropriate experiences that encourage confidence, curiosity, and adaptability.
These puppies are raised around children and teenagers, cats, chickens, and dogs of different sizes, ages, and personalities. They get to experience the sights and sounds of a busy household and learn that the world is full of different people, animals, and everyday activities.
We put a lot of time into giving our puppies a solid foundation before they leave us. Potty training, crate training, basic obedience, and household manners have already been started. Of course, puppies still need consistency and continued training in their new homes, but having that early foundation can make the transition easier for everyone.
Bred With a Purpose
Bobtail Bernards were developed with service dog work in mind, including the strength and size needed for mobility assistance and wheelchair pulling. These puppies were given an early start toward that goal, but their shedding coats make them better suited to life as family companions rather than working service dogs in our program.
They are expected to grow into large dogs, so prospective adopters should be prepared for the responsibilities that come with a large-breed companion, including appropriate exercise, ongoing training, grooming, and veterinary care.
Their tails were docked as part of their original service-dog breeding plan, and their dew claws have been removed. They are up to date on vaccinations and deworming.
Adoption With a Bigger Purpose
These puppies are being offered through Lighthouse Canine Learning Center, a California-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity dedicated to helping children with disabilities gain greater independence through service dogs.
Our mission is about more than raising dogs. We work toward creating life-changing partnerships between children and their service dogs. Adoption fees from these puppies help support the placement of service dogs with children who use wheelchairs.
When you adopt one of these puppies, you're welcoming a new family member into your home while helping another child get closer to a service dog of their own.
