Story
Penny is the sweetest dog in the entire world. She is incredibly loving. We got Penny as a puppy. She is purebred. She is five years old now, her birthday is November 17th. Our son and my husband have been chronically sick for years. So we finally were tested for allergies. Both of them are severely allergic to dogs. We are devastated and heartbroken that we have to let Penny go. She does play really well with dogs she knows, like our neighbors dog. She is weary of strange dogs because she has been attacked and bitten by three separate off leash dogs. They just ran up to her growling and circled her. She cowered behind us each time and was bitten on her leg once, and her ankle during the other two incidents. She is great with our boys, mostly because they feed her goldfish 😂 She requires monthly or at least bi monthly grooming.

I am 63lbs, 3 years old, and l am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $400 All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up to date on preventatives at the time of adoption. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present at the time of your appointment. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. The shelter is currently open by appointment only with an approved application. Please note, all applications are considered general and stay on file for 6 months. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, the adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at  https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/application/   Margaret is a 2 year old female St. Bernard who weighs in at 140 pounds.  Margaret  is fully housebroken, love walks and cuddles/ getting her head, ears, and hips rubbed. She likes picking up toys and running around with them or bringing them to you. Not so much fetch per se, but playing. She also loves being chased in play.   She uses a general lead halter to walk and does not pull or react to passing dogs.  She knows sit and leave it. Margaret should be the only dog in the home and will do best in a home that has experience with big dogs. Margaret  is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken and  spayed.  Margaret's new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. The adoption fee for this pet is $1,200.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting this dog fill out an Online Application today! Name: Blair Breed: St. Bernard Age:    2 years Weight:  122 lbs Special Needs:  Some separation anxiety.  Pet Location: Prospect Heights, IL About Blair: Blair is an easygoing girl who does not rush through life and values her own time. She is currently on a journey to learn how to live as a cherished house dog.  She's incredibly affectionate and her saintly eyes will melt your heart. She was used solely for breeding purposes in the past, so now she is slowly discovering how to truly be a dog.   Blair can be a bit timid and cautious in unfamiliar situations or when she's unsure of what's happening, that is her way of adjusting.  She absolutely adores spending time outdoors, exploring the yard, and relaxing in the grass, soaking up the earth's beauty. With every passing day, she learns new things, eagerly chasing and running after anything that catches her attention. She's also making progress in mastering basic commands and getting more comfortable with car rides, although crate training is a work in progress. Blair's foster home currently accommodates two other dogs, and with a gradual introduction, they all get along well. However, Blair isn't a fan of loud noises such as fireworks, thunder, or any sudden loud booms. Additionally, she gets startled by people shouting or screaming, causing her to run and hide wherever she can feel safe. Blair is quite sensitive to these situations.  On the brighter side, she adores her beauty sleep and has a unique talent for snoring loudly!As she settles in and feels more at ease, Blair transforms into a goofy goofball, revealing her fun-loving personality. You can never resist her adorable invitation for belly rubs when she playfully drops and rolls over at any random moment.
