Marsha, Marsha MARSHA!!!! I am MARSHA :) And look at me!! I DESERVE to be the center of attention :) It wasn't always that way :( I entered the rescue skin and bone and so so so sad :( However, those days are gone (like the 60's) and I am moving forward with you! I am a classic St Bernard, gorgeous colors and fur, laid back personality and maybe a LITTLE drool. I have the looks and the sweet temperament for any family. I am good with other dogs, bigger dogs and I want to be in charge but I am learning that we can ALL be in charge every once in awhile! I am so very ready to fill your house with joy, drool, hair and LOTS of LOVE! I am a big girl at about 94# but gentle is my middle name! ADOPT ME SOON!! My rescue has taken great care of me, I have had a dental, had cherry eye repair. spayed, a small mammary growth removed AND had my stomach secured so I don't ever get bloat! So since THEY did all the work.... you get to love me for the rest of my life!! Sounds like a great trade, right?? Local adoption fee is $400 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $750 (includes transport to your area)

Hi, I'm Elizabeth Taylor – yes, like the one from that Taylor Swift song! And just like my namesake, I'm unforgettable, stunning, and deserve to be adored. I came to the shelter after Chicago Animal Control found me hanging out in someone's yard as a stray. Nobody knows how I ended up there or where my previous family went, but here I am, ready for a fresh start! I've been battling a pesky upper respiratory infection since I arrived, but I'm on the mend and feeling better every day. A little sneeze here and there won't stop this girl from living her best life! Now, let me tell you what I'm all about: BELLY RUBS. Seriously, I will flop right over onto my back the second you come near me because belly rubs are my absolute favorite thing in the world. I might be giant, but I'm really just a big softie who wants all the love and attention you can give. I walk beautifully on a leash – no pulling or dragging, I promise! I'm a lady, after all. I'd love a home with a nice backyard where I can stretch my legs and maybe sunbathe a little (St. Bernards do love a good lounge session). Because I'm such a large breed with specific needs, I'm hoping to find a family who has experience with giant breeds, especially St. Bernards. We can be a handful – not because we're badly behaved, but because, well, we're HUGE and we need people who understand our quirks, our exercise needs, and our health considerations. Humphrey is a special boy who we are hoping to help find a foster to adopt home, as he is still awaiting his neuter. Humphrey is a special dog who deserves an adopter who has experience with St. Bernards or at least giant breed dog experience. Humphrey came to us after being found as a stray at our local animal care and control, he was severely underweight at just 50 pounds when we said yes to saving him. When we met him it was even more disappointing that it was obvious how much he had been failed. He was underweight, weak to the point that he seemed clumsy, filled with matting, covered in both urine and feces, and lastly, we discovered he had maggots underneath those mats. This was a sight that was hard to see and so his comeback began. Now Humphrey is 93 pounds and growing. Along the way we did learn that Humphrey suffers from seizures, this is being managed with Levetiracetam, this is a medication that he is taking every 12 hours so his potential adopter must be comfortable with administering and financially able to provide this medication. As he is coming out of his shell, we are enjoying watching his personality shine. He is the type of baby that bonds hard, he loves to look at you with puppies eyes and just show his love. He is both dependent and independent depending on his mood. He is learning little by little that he loves to play with other dogs. He is a big co-exister meaning that he enjoys being around other dogs but is also respectful of them. We have noticed that he has more confidence to play with smaller dogs at this time and is finding his confidence with bigger dogs little by little! With that being said, he is acting like a puppy when he gets those bursts of energy, he will need some training and patience so a home that is willing to provide that is best. He is working on potty training, as it seems like he primarily lived outside prior to coming to us. So a household that likes routine while he is learning his new environment and schedule would be beneficial. Since Humphrey is still awaiting his neuter, his foster to adopt home MUST be willing to transport him to our partner vet in Chicago's Irving Park neighborhood. Surgeries are on Tuesdays or Thursdays, so please only apply if this is a possibility and you are in or within 2 hours of Chicago. After his neuter, if his forever home is not found we will increase his adoption radius to the 3 hours. If you have any questions prior to applying please email adopt@chicagorescueauthority.org.
