Story
(DOB 1/11/2025) Due to Lucas’s young age, he has not yet been neutered. For this reason, we are only considering local placement (within 1 hour drive time of Wake Forest NC).  Lucas a big-hearted St. Bernard mix with a goofy grin and a guardian’s soul. Lucas is a young, sweet boy who’s equal parts protector and cuddle bug. He’s the kind of dog who forms deep, loyal bonds with his people and shows his love with full-body tail wags, happy zoomies, and endless requests for belly rubs. Lucas prefers to be the only dog in his home; he truly loves having all the attention to himself; his big personality easily fills the room with joy, laughter, and love. This handsome pup is still growing and learning. Lucas would thrive with a confident, experienced handler who understands large breeds and can offer consistent structure, patience, and positive training. He’s a quick learner and loves having tasks, enrichment activities, and plenty of playtime throughout the day to keep his body and mind busy. Lucas needs a home with a secure, tall, fenced yard (perferably not rirght next to another dog's fence) and at least one active human who can devote time to him and his training. He’s a strong boy who enjoys outdoor adventures but is still mastering his leash manners. Because he can be startled by loud noises like fireworks, thunder, or lawn mowers, a calm home with space to retreat would help him feel safe and comfortable. No young children due to his size and energy. He’s got a few puppy habits—like counter surfing and exploring things he shouldn’t—but with consistent guidance and love, he’ll continue to grow into the loyal, well-mannered companion he’s meant to be. Lucas sleeps peacefully in his own room at night and loves his routine of regular potty breaks and play sessions. Lucas is looking for a person(s) that will see how amazing he is and see what an extraordinary heart BIG heart he has. With the right person, someone patient, strong, and devoted, he’ll give back tenfold with love, laughter, and the kind of loyalty only a guardian like him can offer. With his sweet nature, goofy antics, and loyalty, Lucas is the kind of companion who makes every day better. He’s ready to be your shadow, your workout buddy, and your best friend. Ready to add love, laughter, and a little chaos to your life? Lucas is waiting! If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime companion who’ll adore you completely and keep life full of heart and adventure, Lucas is waiting to meet you.  As part of Lucas’s $325 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. In addition to the adoption fee, a $100 spay/neuter deposit and puppy spay/neuter agreement will also be required. The deposit will be returned once the puppy is altered.  If you have questions about this sweet little boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Lucas, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2346047##

Story
This pet was brought in as a stray and will NOT be available for adoption through our program. All stray animals brought in are posted on the gallery to hopefully be reunited with their families. Each pet is evaluated upon arrival, and throughout their stay, at the Animal Center and we do our best to place the animal in the setting most appropriate for them. Sometimes, they may be better served through one of our Transfer Partners due to the intervention needed, ongoing care required or a quieter setting for that individual. We want our animals to put their best paw forward. If you are a 501c3 rescue and are interested in partnering with WCAC to help this pet, and others, you can find more information on how to help at: https://www.wakegov.com/departments-government/animal-services/community-partners/transfer-program If this is your pet, please contact us immediately at AnimalCenter@wake.gov Primary Color: Tri Color Weight: 38 Age: 10yrs 0mths 0wks

Story
Meet Merritt! Merritt may have been born without the full use of her back legs, but don’t tell her she’s any different—this brave little Bernese is busy writing her own rulebook. At just 30 pounds at six months, she won’t grow to full Bernese size; instead, she’ll likely top out around 50–60 pounds, making her a wonderfully manageable medium-to-large pup. She’s already mastered her own way of getting around. Sometimes she hops, sometimes she scoots, and sometimes she rolls proudly in her wheelchair. Her latest favorite move in her chair? Spinning backwards in joyful little circles. Of course, if you happen to have a cheesestick, she’ll happily show off some forward steps too. Because of her disability, Merit doesn’t always have full control of her bathroom habits. At home she does well with pee pads, and when she’s out and about she wears a diaper like a champ. Her future family should be prepared for a bit of extra care, along with some lifting as she grows, but in return they’ll gain a dog with one of the biggest hearts you’ll ever meet. Merit is happiest when she’s snuggled in close, melting into your lap as though she was made for it. She loves other dogs, thrives on affection, and has a way of turning even her quirks into pure joy. What she’s looking for isn’t complicated: a home that will embrace her differences, celebrate her determination, and love her for the sweet, resilient pup she is. With Merritt, you don’t just get a dog—you get a daily reminder that courage and love come in all shapes and sizes. pipsrescue.org/adopt ##2500295##
