Story
Meet Benji! 🐾 At 6 years old, Benji is the definition of a gentle soul. This handsome doodle has been through more than any dog should, but despite his past, he has the sweetest heart and is ready to find the family he’s always deserved. Benji is house trained, leash trained, and dog door trained. We’re actively working on crate training, although Benji would happily tell you that crates just aren’t his favorite place to be! He’s a true lover who wants nothing more than to be with his people. Whether it’s riding in the car, going for a walk, or simply relaxing by your side, Benji is happiest when he’s spending time with his humans. This well-mannered gentleman is non-destructive in the home and has wonderful house manners. He does great with children, although they may want to keep an eye on their snacks—Benji has been known to help himself to a treat or two if given the opportunity! As a doodle, Benji requires regular professional grooming every 4–6 weeks to keep his coat healthy and comfortable. The good news? He’s a true gentleman at the groomer and does wonderfully during his appointments. There are a few important things to know about Benji as he continues his journey. When he came to us, he was severely underweight and still needs to gain approximately 15 pounds. For his health and safety, Benji must be fed on a schedule and cannot be free-fed. Because he went without food for so long, he tends to binge eat if given unlimited access to food, which could ultimately lead to bloat. We’d love for his forever family to continue helping him safely reach a healthy weight with patience and consistency. Benji would do best in a home with a female dog companion, as that’s where he’s been the most comfortable. He is dominant with male dogs, so a home without male dogs would be the best fit for him. He would also thrive as the only dog in a home where his people are around more often than not. More than anything, Benji is looking for a family that will cherish him, continue building his confidence, and give him the love and stability he’s been missing. If you’re ready for a loyal best friend with a heart of gold, Benji is ready to meet you! 🐾 Adoption Info: All of our animals are fully vetted, which includes spay/neuter, up-to-date vaccines, deworming, heartworm testing and treatment if necessary, current flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and microchipping prior to adoption. 👉 To start the adoption process, please fill out our application here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/WAG/Dog Please note: The dog you’re applying for may already have a meet-and-greet scheduled or have been offered to another rescue within our network. Meet Comet! Comet is a 1-year-old Standard Poodle weighing 60 pounds of pure fun and love! One of my absolute favorite breeds, Standard Poodles are incredibly smart, loyal, athletic, and full of personality — and Comet is all of that and more. This happy, goofy, water-loving boy is playful, sweet, and just an all-around good pup. He’s been around both small and large dogs, as well as multiple cats in his previous home, and has done great with everyone.Be warned… he is an “in-your-face” kind of guy! He LOVES giving hugs and being close to his people. If you want a dog that will adore you loudly and proudly, Comet is your boy. 60 pounds Knows “sit” Gives paw Crate trained Great with other animals Water loverComet has only been groomed once in his life, so he will need continued grooming practice and regular maintenance (as all Poodles do). Grooming typically runs $125–$200 every 6 weeks depending on coat length, so please keep that in mind when considering a dog like him. This breed requires commitment to proper coat care.Because of his intelligence, energy level, and grooming needs, adopters must have experience with Standard Poodles or a similar high-maintenance, intelligent breed. If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate, playful companion and understand the responsibility that comes with this amazing breed, Comet is ready to shine in his forever home!
