Elroy is a gentle, tender hearted soul who is still learning that the world can be a kind and safe place. He may be timid but beneath that shyness is an incredibly sweet dog with a loving heart just waiting to bloom. Elroy enjoys car rides especially when he can feel the breeze on his face and those quiet moments seem to bring him a sense of peace. At home, Elroy truly shines as a certified bed bug. The bed is his safe place where he feels most relaxed and trusting. From there, he will happily snuggle in, inch closer to you, and even gently take treats from your hand as his confidence grows.Because Elroy has a difficult time interacting with humans at first, he would do best with patient adopters who understand that trust takes time. A home with another friendly, confident dog would be ideal. Elroy takes great comfort in canine companionship and would benefit from having a buddy to show him how to be a dog.With love, patience, and a calm environment, Elroy will make a deeply rewarding companion. Watching him come out of his shell will be a beautiful journey and one he is ready to take with the right family.Elroy is one year old and weighs 29 pounds.Location: Foster homeThe adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet your possible new family member.helpingstrays.org

Story
Another poodle! This beautiful boy came in with Q Tip and Mayla and he is more than ready to find his furever home just like they did! Hopefully just as fast too! The only reason it took us a bit longer to get him posted is because he had to undergo a major hair transformation! Not saying he looks good now because we hand out some bad cuts but it was much better than the matted mess he had! Murphy is just like the others. Timid, shy but willing to open up for love and a family! He has been with us a week and does fantastic with both the men and women here. He just needs someone to give him a chance! He is already understanding how to walk on a leash which he does need more confidence on but when he came here, he had NEVER been on one! On top of that he has also learned not to potty in his kennel and very much likes to go outside and play with everybody! He gets along great with both male and female dogs but we're unsure of cats. He can be tested if needed! His adoption fee is $275 and this will include his DAPPV vaccine, deworming, current flea and tick, neuter, 1 year Rabies vaccine, heartworm test and a microchip.
