Story
Pet Location: Wayside`s Canine Behavior Center - I`d love to show off all the cool things I`ve learned at Wayside! Please arrive at the shelter before 4pm on our open adoption days to meet me!My friends at Wayside say:- I am from a puppy mill situation. I will likely need extra time to adjust to home life. I have lived with other dogs but have not socialized with people. Things like walking on a leash and going through doorways can be challenging for me. Adopting me will be extremely rewarding, but I need time to learn.- I am enrolled in Confidence College. This is a program for dogs to build confidence and learn that the world is not so scary. My adoption comes with a free 30-minute private training session. - During my time at Wayside, I have enjoyed being around other dogs. - Once I get to know you, I like to stick close and solicit pets!- I am eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10 day in-home trial period. Please visit our website for additional information. My home needs are:- I must go to a home that already has another social dog so they can show me the ropes. - I feel more comfortable around new people when I have a doggie friend to build my confidence. Wayside requires you to bring your dog with you when you come to meet me.- I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises.- A fenced yard is a must for me! I do not know how to walk on a leash, so I need a secure area to go out for potty breaks.- For my safety, I need to go home on an anti-slip collar called a martingale collar. For your convenience, we sell them in our retail store, Whiskers and Wags. - New people and things make me a little nervous. Wayside recommends that I have a low traffic home.Hi, I`m Juniper,I came here from a puppy mill. It was so scary for me. I just panicked, so they enrolled me in a program to build my confidence.I have made great progress with human sociability while in the Confidence College program. Once I became comfortable with my trainers, I seek out proximity and solicit pets. I have made a lot of progress with my leash skills as well. I find leisurely walks in quiet areas to be enjoyable. On walks, the occasional mower or leaf blower can still be scary for me. I am social with other dogs and gain confidence from them. I enjoy walks and sunbathing with them. I can be a bit much for some smaller dogs, knocking into them and stepping on them on occasion. I mostly enjoy co-existing with lower energy dogs. High-energy dogs can be too much for me at times. I then retreat to a corner to lay down if a dog becomes overwhelming to me. I am learning to be social with humans while in a group of people. What do you think? Would I fit in at your house? Do you have a dog that can show me the ropes? Love, Juniper

Story
Jazzy (7/22/20) is a standard poodle, weighs about 44lbs. She is going to do best in a low stress environment, probably best there's no young kids in the house because she likes to nip when she gets excited. She's not being mean, she's just excited and mouthy. She's calmer than my labradoodle. She's more laid back but she's also a scaredy-cat. She's friendly but standoffish until she feels comfortable around you. Her biggest downfall, she will get into the trash and she will chase the cats when she's excited. I think she'll do best as the only other animal.
