Story
Meet Khaki, a sweet little 12lb gentleman who's ready for his second chance.Khaki was found as a stray and brought to Washoe County Regional Animal Services. When he first arrived, he was frightened and unsure of the world around him. We don't know what his life looked like before rescue, but we do know he's making incredible progress every single day.Now settling into his foster home, Khaki is learning that people are kind, homes are safe, and life can be pretty wonderful. He shares his foster home with several other dogs and gets along with all of them beautifully. Most days, you'll find him happily perched on his favorite spot on the couch, quietly watching the other dogs go about their day.One of Khaki's biggest victories has been overcoming his fear of the outdoors. At first, he was terrified of the grass and hesitant to step outside at all. Today, he happily ventures into the backyard and is fully potty trained. He's also making great progress with leash training. In the beginning, simply seeing a leash would cause him to panic. While walks aren't quite his favorite activity yet, he's becoming more comfortable with each outing and continues to build confidence at his own pace.Khaki recently had a full dental cleaning with the extractions he needed, so he's feeling healthy, comfortable, and ready to start his new life.At 8 years old, Khaki has left the puppy chaos behind and is looking for a patient, understanding family who will continue helping him blossom. Every day he grows a little braver, a little more trusting, and a little more confident. Watching him discover the joys of simply being a dog has been incredibly rewarding, and we know the best is still yet to come.If you're looking for a quiet, gentle companion with a heart full of love, Khaki just might be your perfect match. Before adoption, all Boxers & Buddies dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date with age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, and fostered in loving homes where they are treated like family while practicing important socialization skills. We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions. Story
Zofie is a beautiful 69-pound Poodle with a playful spirit and a heart full of love. While she may be considered a senior by age, don't tell her that—Zofie still has plenty of pep in her step and approaches life with youthful enthusiasm.Zofie came to Boxers & Buddies when her family had to make the difficult decision to move out of state. Knowing they could no longer provide the life she deserved, they entrusted her to us because they knew she would be loved and well cared for until she found her next family. This sweet girl has a wonderful temperament and enjoys making friends wherever she goes. She loves playing with other dogs and would be thrilled to have canine companions to romp around with, though she's equally happy spending quality time with her people.Zofie is the perfect blend of fun and affection. Whether she's playing, going for a walk, or simply relaxing by your side, she is happiest when she's included in the family. She has the kind, easygoing personality that makes her a joy to be around. After losing the only home she's ever known, Zofie is looking for a family that will give her the stability, love, and companionship she deserves. In return, she'll reward you with loyalty, friendship, and plenty of happy moments. If you're looking for a sweet, social dog who still enjoys life to the fullest, Zofie may be the perfect addition to your family. Before adoption, all Boxers and Buddies dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date with age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped. All dogs are fostered in a foster home where they are treated like family - practicing socialization skills. After submitting an application, our team will contact you within 24 hours. The adoption process includes an interview, home check, and meet-and-greet. All household dogs must attend the meet-and-greet. Story
Podling is an adorable 2-year-old 15 lb Poodle/Havanese mix who's looking for a patient family willing to let him blossom at his own pace. While he may not be the type of dog who immediately greets strangers with a wagging tail, those who earn his trust quickly discover a loving, loyal companion with a playful personality and a heart of gold.Since joining his foster home, Podling has made incredible progress. He's learned that people can be kind, that home is a safe place, and that life is much better when you have people who love you. His foster family has watched his confidence grow every day, and it's been incredibly rewarding to see.Podling is naturally cautious around new men and unfamiliar dogs. When he's feeling unsure, he may bark or growl as a way of saying, "I'm scared, please give me a little time." He's not looking for conflict—he simply needs patient introductions and the opportunity to build trust at his own pace. Once he knows you're safe, he's a completely different dog, happily leaning in for ear scratches, booty rubs, cuddles, and following his favorite people from room to room. His adopter MUST understand the 3-3-3 rule. When he's feeling comfortable, Podling's silly side comes out. He loves stealing toys from his foster dog cousin to start a game of chase and occasionally bursts into adorable zoomies around the house.Podling would thrive in a home with a larger, calm, confident dog that can help show him the world isn't so scary. He naturally looks to confident dogs for reassurance and gains confidence from their example. Because he's selective about his canine friends, introductions should be slow and thoughtful to ensure a good match. He could also do well as an only dog with an adopter committed to continuing his confidence-building journey.Podling is house trained, sleeps quietly in his crate each night, and uses his crate as a safe place to relax and enjoy his meals. He prefers having company and isn't a fan of being crated when left home alone, so he'll do best with a family that can continue helping him feel secure while gradually building his independence.Podling isn't looking for a family expecting instant perfection. He's looking for people who understand that some of the deepest bonds take a little time to build. If you're willing to be patient and let him set the pace, you'll gain an incredibly devoted companion who will reward your kindness with unwavering loyalty and unconditional love. Story
Maz K9ta's story could have ended before it truly began. This adorable 14-pound girl was saved from the euthanasia list and given a second chance at life. Shortly after entering rescue, she required the removal of one of her eyes, but she has recovered beautifully and is ready to find a family of her own.Now that she's feeling better, Maz's personality has really blossomed. She's energetic, playful, and loves doing zoomies around the yard. She enjoys long walks and would make a fantastic hiking companion for an active adopter.Maz is a true Velcro dog who forms strong bonds with her people and wants to be involved in everything you do. While she can coexist with other dogs, she doesn't enjoy sharing her favorite human and would likely be happiest as an only dog or with a dog who is mellow.Maz is potty trained, knows basic commands like "sit" and "come," and is continuing to work on crate training. She can be vocal at times and is learning the command "quiet."Like many dogs who have experienced uncertainty, Maz has resource guarding behaviors around food, treats, and high-value items. She should be fed separately from other pets and will need an adopter committed to positive reinforcement training and management. She also has a prey drive, so a home without cats would be best.Because of her resource guarding tendencies and desire to have her people to herself, we do not believe Maz is a good fit for a home with young children.Maz would thrive with an adopter who can provide structure, exercise, training, and lots of companionship. Her adopter would also understand that Maz may take a bit longer to adjust in a new home. In return, you'll get a loyal, resilient little dog who wants nothing more than to be by your side.
