Story
Hi, my name is Coal, I was rescued by a kind hearted O.P.A.  Volunteer that saw me in a very dangerous situation, I was lost near Conroe High School on 105…a very busy road, and my savior got me just in time. I’m forever grateful for her saving my life. Then my rescuer/ savior found me a foster home, and I’m having a lot of fun with all the other fur kids I get to play with.  My foster mom describes my personality as feisty…spicy…because when I get overly excited I give her love bites. I’m her little Jalapeño&#239&#184&#143.  I’m still a young boy full of energy to run & play. I would do better in a home with grown kids, because of my love bites parents of little kids might get mad at me if I hurt their kid. I’m a runner, if you leave doors & gates open I will definitely take the opportunity to explore what is out there.  I need protective parents because I definitely don’t want to be in the same situation that I was before. it’s dangerous out there, but as a baby I dunno that until I’m actually out there.  I’m a daddy’s boy…I follow my foster dad every where he goes, and was quite taken by my savior’s husband too.  I do not like to be picked up, I will tell you that, and if you want me to go in my crate you better throw some treats in there…don’t attempt to pick me up & put me in…I hate that.                           May 5, 2024, 3:18 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Bite History! (minor)Nibbles is a GREAT dog! He loves to be the BOSS DOG and is protective of his humans. He devours and loves his squeaky toys and is a lovely addition.  This little nugget did get a bit 'defensive' and bit.  We don't know what the circumstances were surrounding the bite.  The shelter reports it was  'minor' bite.  We will tell you he presented as defensive and unfriendly at our vet.  We were able to administer an anti-anxiety drug to help him deal with the stress of being poked/prodded.  He was NOT happy about it, but we were able to get him vetted! We are working on helping him to learn trust.  His adopter will need to be prepared to continue this type of counter-conditioning to help him become less reactive  and more trusting and open to love. We have been able to crate him, and he does well in a crate.  He's a great little dog who will get along with females, but is male selective.    He can (and will) climb a baby gate.  He's really very sweet and loves to be loved.  He will roll over and show you his belly.   He dislikes strangers and his family will need to give him some time to decompress and learn to trust.   PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF YOU HAVE OR PLAN TO GET ANOTHER MALE DOG  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2024, 4:43 pm

Story
Look at this adorable lady who is happy, quiet, and eager to please! Life experience has taught her that the greatest blessing is to have a loving family so if you are looking for a sweet companion - you have found her! We think she is around 10-12 years old so while she doesn't play with toys much, she does have lots of love to give! She has limited sight, but she can climb doggy steps up to the couch and find all the important things - especially her food and water :) She loves food so her foster mom got her a special slow bowl to make her meals last longer. She is mostly potty trained -she tries to go to the door and alert you but if you are gone too long then sometimes she can't wait. She does well exploring the backyard and returning to the house. She is good with other doggies but would also be fine in a home of her own. She currently sleeps in a crate, but your bed or her own bed are good options too! Her little tail wags a lot and she is happy on her own taking a snooze in a dog bed or laying on your lap. So give and get some joy with Mrs. Frizzle! To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.
