Story
If you’re a fan of Yellowstone, you already know the name Dutton stands for loyalty, grit, and heart and this Dutton lives up to it in the most lovable, tail-wagging way possible. Dutton is a one year old Border Collie mix with a sharp mind, a playful spirit, and an “always on” attitude toward life. He came to the shelter as a stray after being found tied to a bench, but he hasn’t let his rough start dull his sparkle. He’s now neutered, in good health, and ready to find his forever ranch…or couch…or agility course. What makes Dutton special? Smart & Driven: He already knows sit and is eager to learn more—especially if treats or toys are involved. Play is His Love Language: Toys, games, interaction—if it involves you and fun, Dutton is ALL IN. High Energy, High Potential: As a young Border Collie mix, Dutton thrives when his brain and body are exercised. Agility, flyball, “find it” games, trick training—this guy would love a job. Friendly & Engaging: He’s social and people-oriented, though he can get jumpy and amped up when excited. The good news? He does respond to settling cues and shines with structure and positive reinforcement. Dog & Home Notes: He’s met male dogs and was interested but a bit unsure when they were too pushy—he may do best with female dogs. Any dog introductions should be slow, supervised, and on leash. Due to jumpiness and unknown history, small children are not recommended at this time. A home with dog experience, especially with herding breeds, would be ideal. Someone who enjoys training, classes, and the idea of a “working dog” will absolutely love Dutton. A handler who is home more often would help him continue building confidence and learning how to settle. Dutton’s Ideal Match: A committed, positive-reinforcement household that understands Border Collies need structure, boundaries, and lots of fun. He does not respond well to aversive methods but truly shines when learning is engaging, rewarding, and consistent. Dutton is the kind of dog who will keep you laughing, moving, and learning right alongside him. If you’re ready for a loyal sidekick with energy, intelligence, and a big personality, Dutton is ready to be your right-hand ranch dog. Think you can keep up with a Dutton? Story
Say hello to Chase, a 1.5-year-old Shepherd/Kelpie mix who wandered in as a stray and is now ready to chase his way straight into your heart. As you might guess from his working-breed roots, Chase is smart, athletic, and full of potential—the kind of dog who’s happiest when life includes movement, learning, and a little purpose. Chase has lots of energy and will do best with daily physical exercise and mental enrichment. Long walks, hikes, training sessions, puzzle toys, or fun dog sports would all be right up his alley. He already knows “sit” and is eager to learn more, making obedience training a fantastic next step—not just for manners, but also to help build his confidence and social skills. When meeting new people, Chase shows a thoughtful, sensitive side. He did great with women, and while he was a bit unsure around some men at first, he warmed up quickly and happily joined them for short walks. With continued positive, rewarding experiences, especially around new people, Chase is expected to gain even more confidence and blossom into an even more well-rounded companion. Chase also did very well meeting our test dog and would likely enjoy having a canine friend, as long as introductions are done slowly and thoughtfully to set everyone up for success. This intelligent, active young dog will thrive with an engaged, patient family who’s excited to invest time in training, structure, and confidence building. In return, you’ll get a loyal, fun-loving companion who’s ready to grow alongside you. If you’re looking for a dog who will keep you moving, make you proud, and form a deep bond through training and shared adventures, Chase might just be your perfect match. Please complete an adoption application: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Chase has an appointment to be neutered on February 12th. He will be ready to go to his forever home after this surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only.
