Story
Mufasa – Tibetan Mastiff Mix · ~1.5 years old
Mufasa’s story is one of resilience, strength, and a spirit that refuses to give up. Originally found abandoned in the woods, this majestic boy was brought to ACCT Philly and then transferred into our care. Overwhelmed and terrified, Mufasa managed to climb our fence and escape — a testament to both his fear and his impressive determination. Sadly, his time on the run ended when he was struck by a car and injured.
But Mufasa fought his way back.
He spent the last two months in a loving foster home, recovering, and slowly learning that people can be trusted. Thanks to excellent veterinary care, he has now been fully cleared by his orthopedic surgeon and is ready to find a home that understands him.
Mufasa is an independent, stubborn, deeply intelligent boy - all classic traits of the Tibetan Mastiff lineage. While our volunteer can handle him without issue (including grooming and administering medication), he will thrive best in an adult only breed‑experienced home that respects the unique temperament of guardian breeds.
Because of his history, Mufasa is a known flight risk. For his safety, he requires:
- A secure, fully fenced yard
- Being kept on leash or a long lead even within the fenced area until he has fully settled and formed trust
- Adopters willing to go slow, build confidence, and create a stable routine
In the right home, Mufasa will shine. He is loyal, proud, and observant — a dog who bonds deeply once he feels safe. If you understand guardian breeds and are ready to offer structure, patience, and security, Mufasa may be the perfect companion for you.
He will come neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and 4dx tested.
If you are serious about adoption, please fill out the adoption application on our website www.phoenixanimalrescue.com
His adoption fee is $500.
