Story
Roland is still looking for his person. Someone patient, gentle, and willing to let him take his time. This 1-year-old Tibetan Spaniel mix is very scared of people, and we want to be honest about what bringing him home will look like. He won’t immediately be a happy-go-lucky dog who runs up for attention. A new home and new people will be a big adjustment, and he needs someone who won’t rush him or take his fear personally. He does open up over time. In his foster home, he’s shown growing trust through little tail wags, eye contact, and tentative approaches for affection. Those moments might seem small, but for Roland, they’re a big deal. And underneath that fear is a sweet, silly little boy. He loves rolling onto his back in the yard and wiggling his way through the grass. Mealtime and relaxing on a shady patio are also pretty high on his list of favorite things. We strongly recommend a securely fenced yard and another confident, friendly dog in his future home. Roland gets along with dogs of all sizes, and a canine friend could help him feel more comfortable while he learns to trust his people. He has also been comfortable around his foster’s cat. A quiet, predictable home would suit him best. Sudden movements and loud noises can frighten him, and he hasn’t been around children in foster care, so we don’t yet know how comfortable he would be with them. He’s making progress with potty training, keeps his crate clean, and will bark to let his foster know he needs to go outside. He still benefits from frequent potty breaks and a consistent routine. Leash walking is a work in progress, and he isn’t ready for neighborhood walks yet, another reason a secure yard would be helpful. Roland needs someone who can appreciate him as he is while giving him room to grow. Someone who will let him choose when to come closer and understand that trust may come slowly.
