Story
Jesse - Chihuahua - Male - 2 years - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Jesse: Jesse came to us with a history of being rescued from a parking lot "give-away" to routinely slipping out of his rescuers house. Jesse is an equal opportunity snuggle bug in bed and in the lounge chair while watching TV. He loves going on walks with his foster family either by himself or with his pack. He loves riding in cars, and enjoys wearing his sweaters and jackets in the cold. If you want him to move from a spot, all you have to do is pat the spot you want him to be in and he’ll go right to it. Jesse takes a while to warm up to people, but once he gets to know you and is comfortable with you, he follows you everywhere. He wasn't on the best diet in the past and is currently being treated for some skin allergy issues, but he takes his allergy medication very well with a smidge of cream cheese wrapped around it. He’s ruthless when it comes to stuffed toys and will probably do better with  toys without stuffing. He loves Nyla bones beef chewables. He uses his stairs to get on and off the bed. He’s not a fan of strangers and takes quite a while to warm up to them but once he accepts people, he is very loyal. Initially, he had a bit of separation anxiety, but now all his foster has to do is tell him to stay when they leave and he goes and does his thing (napping) until they return.  He is potty trained as long as he is taken him out every four hours. If that window is missed, he has been known to make a deposit, so crating while unsupervised is advised, especially in the beginning. He not an old dog, but he moves and behaves a bit like he's a grumpy old man. Jesse is looking for a rather quiet home where someone (and a Lap) is available most of the day. He lives parallel to other dogs and doesn't care if they are there or not. He would likely not welcome a young dog in his space insisting on playing. He is not recommend him for a family with young children. ***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***

Story
Ruby - Chihuahua Mix - Female - 8.5 Years - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Ruby: Ruby and her sister Pearl are adorable Chihuahua mix girls who have been returned to us  as their owner became very ill and unable to care for them. Ruby is more of a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix (as opposed to Pearl, who is has more Italian Greyhound in her = one has short legs, one has long legs...) Ruby is moderately active and curious and quite friendly and outgoing, they  both love to meet new people. They do well with other dogs after proper introduction, we have not observed them around cats though. They are house and crate trained and are still getting the hang of that leash-walking business, but both are smart and learn quickly.  Ruby tends to be a bit more snuggly than her sister.. We have only observed them around older kids, so a family with middle school kids or older would likely be fine. As they have spend most of their time together, we assumed they were a bonded pair - that cannot be split up, but a trial separation (Ruby went to another foster she already knew, with familiar-to-her dogs) proved that they are not bonded but do need one or more dogs to keep company. Both dogs are doing very well separated, but with other dogs. Both dogs however NEED a very securely fenced in yard as they are Houdini's. Ruby and Pearl will find the smallest weakness in your fence and take very little time to dig our or under a fence with soft soil underneath. They are also quite "slippery" at the front door, so a home with small children will increase their escape success. Ruby has light sensitive eyes that cause her to squint outside, medical causes have been ruled out, but it doesn't make for the prettiest photos taken outside. So, Ruby is looking for a moderately active home, preferably together with her sister, but at minimum with another dog of similar size and temperament. She is more of a parallel companion. Ruby can handle regular working hours if she get enough attention around those hours. She MUST have a very secure fence and preferably a gated front door to keep her safe. Ruby has her own Amazon Wish List for items that would make her stay in her foster home better: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/DPM3DGATVU22?ref_=wl_share ***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet, as not all dogs come to all Meet and Greets***

Story
Pearl - Chihuahua mix - Female - 8.5 Years - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Pearl:  Ruby and Pearl were returned to us due to no fault of their own - or their owner, for that matter, the Owner became terminally ill and could no longer care for them, so they came back to us. Pearl is a Chihuahua/probably Italian Greyhound mix and is about 8.5 years old and sweet and active and cuddly. As they have spend practically all of their lives together, we assumed that they were a "bonded pair", but not a lot of families are able to take in two dogs at a time, so we decided to test if they are truly bonded: we placed Pearl into another foster home - one that she had stayed in before with people and dogs she was already familiar with and she is thriving! Pearl has not missed a beat integrating with her new pack, loves her people, no changes in appetite or behavior, so we think its safe to say they are not a bonded pair. She does seek out the company of her people and other dogs to play with. Pearl is active and curious and quite friendly and outgoing, she loves to meet new people. Both Ruby and Pearl do well with other dogs after proper introduction, we have not observed them around cats though. They are house and crate trained and walk pretty well on leash, both are smart and learn quickly. Pearl is a little more confident than her sister, and likes to play with other dogs, Ruby tends to be a bit more snuggly. We have only observed them around older kids, so a family with middle school kids or older would likely be fine. Both Pearl and Ruby are Houdini's! They are exceptional at spotting weak spots in your fencing and making an escape, so a very securely fenced in yard is required. Pearl is also pretty "slippery" at the door, so extra caution when opening the front door is necessary. Pearl  is looking for a moderately active home, preferably together with her sister, but at minimum with another dog of similar size for her to play with. Pearl can handle regular working hours,  as long as she gets adequate attention around those time. Pearl now has her own personal Amazon Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/37OCSENHYAX1C?ref_=wl_share ***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***
