Rodney is a beautiful coonhound. The problem is he’s a coonhound and requires a lot of space to be a coonhound. We, sadly, have career changes that don’t allow us the time to manage his needs. We’ve had him since he was 6 months old and love him immensely and saying goodbye will be the hardest thing we’ve ever done. We will only let him go to a home with lots of space to run, howl and live his best life.

Hi there! My name is Rowdy Roo and I'm a 5-year-old male Treeing Walker Coonhound/Retriever Mix currently living at the Santa Barbara Campus, eager for a new home! Howdy, partner! The name’s Rowdy, and I'm lookin' for a forever ranch to call my own. I may have come from an overcrowded rescue, but these days I'm focused on ridin' toward a brighter future. I'm a handsome hound mix with a friendly heart, good manners, and plenty of personality to keep life interesting. I've already learned a few tricks along the trail, including sit, down, shake, and speak. Now, about that last one—I am a hound, after all! I've got opinions, stories, and the occasional commentary to share. If you're lookin' for a quiet cowpoke, I might not be your guy. But if you enjoy a dog who'll happily chat back and keep you company, we'll get along just fine. When it comes to walkin' the range, I generally do pretty well on leash and usually pay no mind to other dogs we pass. My real weakness? A good scent. Sometimes my hound nose catches wind of somethin' mighty interestin', and I may try to follow the trail. I can be a strong puller in those moments, but with treats, encouragement, and a little redirection, I'm happy to get back on track. My favorite part of the day is spendin' time with people. I'm a friendly fella who loves attention and won't hesitate to mosey on over for pets, scratches, and a little quality time with my favorite humans. I'm lookin' for a family that appreciates a loyal sidekick, doesn't mind a little hound dog conversation, and is ready for adventures wherever the trail may lead. So what do you say, partner? Saddle up and come meet me. I reckon we could make a mighty fine team! Adoptions are open 12pm-4:30pm every day, except Wednesdays, and no appointment is needed. Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted, I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Hills Science Diet will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home. Hi. Meet 13 year old CORNBREAD who we think is a pit mix with a Treeing Walker Coonhound. He was dumped on the side of the road and taken to the local shelter where we rescued him. This old guy was in pretty rough shape when he first came to us, but he's been thriving at our kennel is looking for a place to call home. Cornbread is sight-impaired, but he is still alert, VERY affectionate, and likes the company of other mellow dogs. He enjoys car rides, trips to the pet store and loves getting pets from people. Story
Francis is a 1 yr old neutered Lab mix who fractured his 5th metacarpal bones (bones just below his wrist) on both front limbs. The specialty center is doing a staged procedure to place hardware to help the fractures heal. He had one of the procedures already and is due to the next one in about 1 week. He is in splints/bandages currently.The surgical recovery period is estimated to be about 6-8 weeks. At this time of the recovery, he is required to have strict cage rest with no running, jumping, playing and leash walks only to go to the bathroom. He will also need his splints/bandages changed regularly. As he progresses in the recovery, he will most likely need some physical therapy but he is not there yet. Update 8/19: After over two months in foster care, Francis is healing well and has had his casts removed. He is a sweet dog who has been able to warm up to a two year old child in a foster home and done well being around calm large and small dogs. He is still on cage rest at this time as the vets continue to monitor and make sure his bones heal up properly, but after everything he has been through this cute pup is very ready to find his permanent home.
