Story
Let me tell you a heartbreaking story for anyone who still believes animals are disposable or incapable of feeling loss.
Meet Ponyo, a sweet and beautiful 3-year-old girl who wants nothing more than to be reunited with his favorite person, an 11-year-old little girl.
A few weeks ago, tragedy struck. In an instant, a little girl lost her mother and her two best friends, Ponyo and Mr. Miyagi. When first responders arrived, the frightened cats escaped outside and, amidst the chaos, were unintentionally forgotten. The little girl was taken to live with her father, while Ponyo and Mr. Miyagi were left behind.
Thankfully, kind neighbors noticed them, managed to bring them to safety, and when I saw a post asking for help, I didn’t hesitate.
They’ve been with us for two weeks now, and every single day Ponyo breaks screens, tears at locks, or finds some new way to escape in search of home. She cries. She waits by doors. And almost every day, I find her sitting at a nearby house filled with children, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she’ll find her little girl again.
Animals feel love. They feel comfort, attachment, loneliness, and grief. Ponyo isn’t being difficult or destructive. She’s heartbroken. She lost her family, her home, and the person she loved most, and she’s trying with everything he has to get back to her.
This beautiful girl is available for adoption and, yes, she would absolutely love a home with children. While we can never replace the little girl he misses so dearly, we hope we can find her a family filled with laughter, playtime, cuddles, and little hands ready to love her again.
Please remember that to our pets, we are their whole world. They don’t simply forget us. They wait, they search, and they mourn. 🩷🐾
